Advantages: Soft handles, easy to hold, non spill
Disadvantages: Spout needs work
So why do parents buy so many different cups for their little ones when trying to get them from breast or bottle to cup? The answer is simple, none of them work too well, there is always something up with them in one way or another!
So what do we look for? Non-spill, nothing worse than water spilling everywhere in the baby changing bag.
Not too big, not too small - needs to fit in changing bag in the first place so that it will or will not make a mess through spillage!
Handles to hold - for little ones they need something to hold onto that is a good size, and soft to hold too.
When you suck water comes out - not too hard to suck so that face looks like you are sucking on a hoover!
So this cup, great on 3 counts but when it comes to number 4 (sucking) you are on thin ice! From personal experience my son found this cup rather difficult to get any water out of until he had been using it on and off for about a month! I guess by this time it had loosened, relaxed whatever you want to say, a bit and therefore was easier to suck from. He had also got a bit older and had realised what he needed to do. I have to say there are worse cups for sucking from, I chose this one as the spout was softer than others but did not resemble the teat of a babies bottle, though was well shaped for fitting in the mouth comfortably. So there are bonuses to thsi cup, it's not all bad.
When my son was finally able to use this cup he really only used it when we were out and about, with the lid on that is, as it does actually make a really nice cup for drinking from without the lid. This is also what my son preferred, I personally think that he got more water without the spout and his thirst was quenched better in this way.
So overall I would give this cup 7 out of 10. It fits much of the criteria required and once used a bit the spouted part is much easier to use. It has a dual use, with and without the lid and continues to be used in this way so will last a while yet. It is also non-spill which lasted some time but as with most non-spill cups over time when you are removing the lid and replacing it the seal is lost slightly an it starts to drip. If anyone knows of a cup that doesn't do this then please let me know - thanks!
Must mention that the spouted part is not so easy to clean though so take note of this area when cleaning.
Summary: Has its uses
