Tommee Tippee Electric Bottle Warmer
Advantages: It is simple to use
Disadvantages: It does not have an inbuilt timer
I couldn't be without my Tommee Tippee Electric Bottle Warmer. It makes heating up bottles of milk and water very easy, which is just what you need as a busy mum.
At the same time though it is not without its faults.
I purchased this particular bottle warmer because it is made by Tommee Tippee which is a well-known and respected brand in the baby product world.
It is small and unobtrusive in the kitchen and appealing to the eye anyway, coming in a nice clean white with just a small grey dial on the front. It can simply be plugged in ready to use when ever you need it. It does not have any fiddly separate parts to deal with and clean.
To use it you put the bottle you wish to heat into the circular container, which is the bottle warmer, before filling the container carefully with water, leaving about an inch to spare at the top so the bottle is now sitting in water.
You then need to switch the appliance on at the wall and turn the dial on the front of the warmer all the way round to setting three. The time the milk or water then takes to heat depends on the size of the bottle. A smaller bottle of 150ml takes five minutes and a larger bottle of 240ml takes nine minutes. I have discovered that it does not matter how full either of these bottles is, the time still remains the same for each size as it is the size of the bottle not how full it is which determines how long it takes to heat up.
It was this particular point which I was not totally clear on when first using the bottle warmer as I was not sure if when using a large bottle which was only half full whether it would take just five minutes for example.
The instructions are quite clear with a table showing what size bottles take which time to heat up, but because Tommee Tippee instructions come in so many different languages the whole process of reading and understanding them can prove more complex. But as with a lot of baby products once you have used them a few times you wonder how it ever seemed complex.
The main criticism I would have with this bottle warmer is it does not have an inbuilt timer. This means you cannot go away and leave the milk warming without setting your own stopwatch. I tend to use my mobile phone now to time how long the milk has been heating. There is no need to panic if you let the milk heat a minute or so longer than it should but it would have been useful if there had been a timer on the warmer and even a light or beeping noise to alert the user when the milk is done as you always have to have one eye on the clock.
Otherwise, the bottle warmer is very hard wearing. Mine has been in constant use for the last 11 months and it has not had any problems.
The warmer can also be used to heat up food jars but I have not personally tried this out and milk can be left to stand in the hot water to hold its temperature once the milk is heated.
As a note of advice however, the milk is heated to a temperature hotter than drinking temperature for a baby so will need to be left to stand for a good five minutes first. This bottle warmer is certainly a must-have item and at a price of around £15 to £20 it is highly affordable in relation to its usefulness.
Summary: A good all round product and labour saver for busy mums
