Advantages: Easy for babies to use, simple, dishwasher and steriliser-proof, cheap

Disadvantages: Leaks even when spout is closed, spout is difficult to keep clean

The Tommee Tippee First Cup is, in my opinion, the best cup for young babies. It's a simple two-handled plastic cup with a sturdy spouted lid that fits on easily.

Fluid drips out slowly from the two holes in the spout so hard sucking isn't needed (unlike some of the more expensive none-spill varieties we've tried in the past) and babies from four months can soon learn how to drink from this. My boys mastered this simple cup from six months and my two year old still uses his! He loves it and even takes a cup of water to bed with him.

Unfortunately, the cup is prone to leaking (even when the spout is closed down) and it is a nightmare to clean - as dirt collects behind the spout and it is really difficult to get behind it to clean it out thoroughly. It is dishwasher and steriliser-proof but for only around £2 each, we've just replaced cups when needed. I prefer to use this for water or juice, rather than milk for hygiene reasons.

It's an ideal size to transport in your changing bag (holding just 190ml of fluid according to the handy markings on the side) but be careful of the inevitable leaks!

Summary: Sometimes simplicity is the best

I love these cups, I've got loads...but yes they do leak and it is difficult to keep the spouts clean, especially if they've been used for chocolate milk...

Have you tried using one of those tiny teat brushes to clean the spout? A nice concise review there, my granddaughter had these cups and I agree about the leaking.
