Advantages: Small, Good accessories
Disadvantages: Not powerful enough
The Toys R Us breast pump didn?t really meet my needs. Being an expectant Mum when I chose it, I suppose I didn?t really know what I wanted, but as a battery pump seemed less time-consuming and more powerful than a hand-pump, I believed that this would be the most convenient for me. I began to express as instructed by midwife, about two weeks after my daughter was born, by then I had a good supply of milk and expressing the milk was an ideal solution to constantly breast-feeding. It also gave my husband the opportunity to feed out daughter, and free me up for some much needed sleep. It didn?t work. Firstly, the batteries wear out really quickly, which more or less weakens the suction, which wasn?t all that strong to start off with. The settings adjuster was a small dial, which you need to adjust while the pump is attached. As the dial is small, I found it difficult to adjust the suction with my comparatively big hand, and also as it is a dial, getting the suction comfortably correct was a near-impossible feat for me. You can express directly into the bottle they supply for you, but as the bottle is small, you have to stop halfway through to pour it into another bottle, refit and start all over again. It did have some great accessories, the bottle which my daughter particularly favoured, breast pads, size adjusters that type of thing, but after much perseverance I gave up with it and expressed by hand, which seemed to be quicker and more effective. My initial assumption was that a battery operated pump would make expressing easier, can?t see how in this case.
