Advantages: 2 ways of sterilising
Disadvantages: Not big enough to do a big load of bottles, no use for twins, takes a while to cool down
I happened to buy this steriliser as a back up one. I had the avent steam steriliser as my main one, but liked the sound of this one. I had been looking on the web for a cold water type steriliser incase I was going on holiday or something and maybe needed to take a smaller steriliser. While on the Babies R Us website I came across the Bruin Coldwater Sterilser which could also be used as a microwave sterilser. It was a bargain at £9.99. So I headed off to my local Toys R Us to have a look. I was impressed. The box wasn't too big and it was well pictured on the box and 2 of the sides were dedicated to the instructions for usuing the 2 types of sterilising methods. It's quite simple to use as well by the looks of it. So me and hubs decided to get one. We got it home and I took it out and was very impressed to discover there were more instructions inside. Not often you get 2 lots of instructions. The base of the steriliser is white with a Bruin Bear on it which is the name of the Babies R Us Range. It comes with purple inside parts which old the bottles in place while sterilising. Then the lid is clear but not see through with purple handles. For the microwave side of it, you put all your bottles in with the teats, lids and necks. You do have to jiggle about to sterilise but you get there in the end. You then add 200mls of water and in my microwave you stick it in for 8 minutes. I found I could fit 3 wide neck bottles in. I don't know how the tall thin ones would go. When the 8 minutes is up I open the door and use oven gloves to take the steriliser out as it is hot. I usually leave it to coll which can be about 1-3 hours but as long as you leave the lid on the items inside remain sterile. I do prefer my big steam steriliser but this is handy if you are going somewhere that you don't want to lug a big one about or as my friend did when she bought one to sterilise her babies weaning equiptment when she s
tarted on solids. It's a bulky steriliser and can take up room in your kitchen but I like it as a handy one and it does make my life easier when we go away! I used the cold water sterilser last week in practice for going away! It was horrendous! Anyone who has an avent one will know that you can get 6 bottles in at a time. I managed 2 bottles, 2 teats, 2 necks and 2 lids. Having to leave them in the solution for 30 minutes meant that it took up a lot of time taking them out and rinsing with cooled boiled water, then puting back together. I'm glad I will only have to do it for 4 days before I'll be back to steam steriliser. But I'll let you know how i get on, but 2 bottles at a time! Would be no good if you had twins! I hope this helps anyone who may be considering buying one of these.
