On the top of the ball is a yellow star shape light that flashes when the toy is turned on. This section of the toy can be pushed down to pop up a surprise (I guess that's how they came up with the name!) Underneath the yellow star is a blue animal that I think is supposed to be a dog, it doesn't much look like a dog however. To hide the dog again the star just...more

Vtech Pop Up surprise Ball Yet another one of Jack's Christmas presents up for review and this time it is the Pop up Surprise Ball from Vtech. I bought this from Argos way before Christmas and it came as part of a three toy set costing just under £20. It came with the Vtech nursery Rhyme Book and the Vtech Mobile phone. I thought this was a very reasonable price for the three toys together as I had previously seen the nursery rhyme book for sale singularly at a price of around £8 and that is pretty much the price you would pay if you went out and bought this pop up surprise call separately too. My 6 months old daughter got this toy for her first Christmas. On the begging she wasn't very interested in it. But after wile listen to the melodies she slowly start push it all round the house. The pop in out puppy always make her smile. The Vtech pop-up surprise ball is a fun and friendly toy for babies aged three months and up. Press the star button on the top to see a cute puppy pop up! Other animal friends introduce numbers, animal sounds and melodies while the soft fabric bumpers add visual and tactile interest for little explorers! After inserting batteries - and to turn the unit on. Slide the off/low volume/high volume selector switch to ...

Actually, it's not my ball, it's my son's. And the thing that pops up is plastic! Intrigued? Well, this is a first for me. As my son will be one year old this month, I thought I'd take a look at one of his newest toys, which was kindly given to him by his Nanny recently. Now vTech, the manufacturers, call this a Pop-up Surprise Ball - it's "a fun and friendly toy". Probably the first surprise is that there's no real surprise at all! The so called "surprise" element comes from a section of the ball, which when depressed pops up a figurine supposed to resemble a puppy, but let's not get ahead of ourselves and start from the ...
