Advantages: bpa, latex, PVC free, flexible, great spoons and brilliant for teething!
Disadvantages: best for weaning, not very deep
As mentioned before, when my daughter was about 3 months old we trotted off to the Baby show at London's Earls Court. There were of course loads of stands advertising many various baby brands. One of them was the Vital baby brand. I have already reviewed their super unbelievabowl set (seriously guys go get one!) and they were also handing out free samples of their soft tip weaning spoons. Being as crafty as I am, I scooped up about 6/7 and I'm so glad I did!
At around 5 months old, I began the weaning process with my daughter, just introducing new textures and things like baby rice and the odd pureed dish and these spoons were just great for the job! They are brilliant and safe to use as they are BPA free, latex free and PVC free meaning no harmful chemicals will transfer into the precious little one's mouth. We got these in the orange - yellow colour, and these were a great option as they are bright and colourful and co-ordinate with the orange unbelievabowl set we had at home anyway!
The design of the spoon is quite simple but I would say definitely aimed at the younger age range. They are a rubbery feel so soft on baby's sensitive gums and don't rub or irritate, and also (as my daughter discovered!) fun to chew on as a teething tool! The spoon itself is extremely shallow and so really optimum for the younger age as they don't particularly hold much food, and fit with much more ease into a tiny mouth. The spoon was brilliant for baby rice and desserts but I did find as she got older, and started having food with a more thicker consistency these spoons were a bit obsolete as they didn't hold much and my daughter started to get irritated at a spoonful with hardly anything in it!
Saying that, as my daughter got older and got more independent, she of course wanted a hand at feeding herself and these spoons were quite easy to use and hold as they have a flexible tip which is easy to hold and manoeuvre. It sounds sad to say, but she is now 3 years old, and if she's eating a petis filous or something she much prefers feeding herself still using these vital baby weaning spoons lol!
The spoons themselves are quite durable, as we have been washing them and although they have started to discolour slightly at the tip they have retained their quality and still in great use. These come available in a pack of 5 on the vital baby website for £2.99 which I think is great value (even though I got mine for free!) If I was to go back in time or pop another one out I would happily shell out the £3 for these spoons as I do think they are worth it, and now over 2 years on they are still getting some use!
Summary: brilliant spoons from vital baby
