Advantages: The price and it works well enough
Disadvantages: The handle is uncomfortable to hold- especially when full
I needed a new measuring jug as mine had gone missing (I know) I popped into Tesco to get a value one but they didn't have one so I nipped across to Asda to have a look. Their Smart Price jug was 30 odd pence so I got one. I can't be sure exactly what I paid as it was a while ago but a quick look on their website says it's 35p at the moment.
The jug is large, measuring upto 1 litre (2 pints). It's made from semi translucent plastic and has moulded on measurements rather than printed. The jug measures in litres, pints, ml's, fluid oz's and is the same on either side. The spout is 'v' shaped making it clean to pour, the jug has the usual half handle as in it doesn't fully attach to the jug- it's open at the bottom. There is no packaging just a Smart Price sticker that up to now is stuck fast and won't wash off. The sticker says the jug is suitable for the microwave and dishwasher.
I use a measuring jug for loads of things- I didn't know until I lost mine how much I do use one! Not only measuring out liquid but for making instant gravy, heating things up in the microwave, whisking cream and even defrosting the car I also use one for watering things.
Filling to the lines can be tricky as the measurements are quite faint especially when measuring out boiling water as the steam obscures them even more. I do prefer moulded on measurements to printed though as one jug I had, had printed and they came off after a while.
The jug is surprising well made, it feels sturdy and the handle manages not to strain too much even when the jug is full. The only problem I encounter is that the handle is hard and feels sharp especially when full, it's uncomfortable to hold- but I'll forgive it because of the price.
The jug hasn't been compromised by using boiling water in it, it hasn't lost it's shape. It isn't stained from use but microwaved tomato sauce has left the dreaded red staining from it but it has washed off eventually. Whisking cream in it has started to cloud it up a bit, this isn't a problem as I can still see the measurements though.
I presume it's pretty accurate as liquid measurements are okay when added to sauces etc.
I like this measuring jug, it's a good size, feels well made- apart from the hard plastic under the handle, seems accurate and is super cheap. I love the shape of the spout because it gives an accurate pour.
I would recommend it, but am only giving 4 stars because the handle is uncomfortable to hold- especially when full.
Summary: I like this jug, and wouldn't hesitate to buy one again
