      A kitchen must

I placed an order towards the end of last year with a compaqny called Cooking Time and since I was ordering from them anyway I decided to have a look what else the site sold unfortunately that meant I made a dent in my bank balance.

When I was youngher one of my favourite things to make was shortbread and I have carried on into adulthood, I always cut my shortbread in fingers however when I saw these I thought they would make good cutters for shortbread and I liked that there were so many different sizes that I could make smaller biscuits to prevent my daughter having too much in the way of biscuits and to help with my weight loss.

The cutters are circular and are made of metal, the metal is pretty strong and even though the cutters have been bashed around in my kitchen drawer they have not dented or bent in any way. There are 6 different cutters in the set and each one of them is double edged, on one side of the cutter the edge is fluted and on the other side the edge is straight. The cutters are about 1 1/2 inches in depth so you can cut quite thick biscuits or even cute fluted shape cakes which myself and my daughter did and I must say they were lovely topped with buttercream and little fondant icing butterflies.

The set costs just over £9 which I think is good considering really you are getting 12 cutters since they are double sided, I know you can pick single sided cutters really cheap in discount type stores but these are really good quality and I would prefer to buy better quality for things like this so I know they won't bend after one use. The cutters are pretty easy to wash although you need to ensure you get in each flute but I found it wasn't too much hassle and the bisucit mix slides off easily.

These are great quality and easy to use, they cut through cake and biscuit mix easily and although I haven't actually used them on pastry myself my Dad borrowed the bigger one and made mini pasties and the cutter worked fine. The smallest cutter cuts about the size of a 2 pence piece and then the cutters get bigger by about 1cm each time. This is a great range of cutters and will last for years so are worth the price you pay.

Cookingtime Stainless Steel Double Edged Pastry Cutters

Have you guessed?! Another present from my Nan! As she loves cooking (and makes a killer chocolate cake!) she decided to get herself a pack of these and, as always got some for me too!

It's not very often I cook with my daughter really as our oven isn't great and we don't have much spare time lately. But when we do it is a fun experience which we both enjoy! As far as the quality of the cooking goes ... we leave a lot to be desired! Somehow, and don't ask me how, we always end up getting the thickness of the biscuit wrong, or it doesn't cut well enough and the edges look a bit worse for wear! This is where the Cookingtime Stainless Steel Double Edged Pastry Cutters come in!

      The Idea

It doesn't take a genius to work out what they are, but I will explain! They are double edged cutters that make your dough into little circles so you can cook it into biscuits. The double sided idea is great as they have made really good use of it. One side is straight and looks like a normal (but boring to be honest) circle. The other side? That is a nice fluted kind of design which does make the biscuits look much more exciting etc.

      Do They Work?

The problem I have with a lot of the cheap cutters I pick up is that they don't cut through the whole dough and little bits come off etc. which makes it look quite messy. These however cut straight through and come straight back up with no trouble at all.

      My Thoughts?

Although they may look at bit pricy at a little over £6, remember you are actually buying 12. There are 6 cutters in the pack but they are double sided. The two designs also work well as a more business meeting might not want little, cute and fluted biscuits, but a 8th Birthday Party probably will. I would really recommend these and you won't regret buying them! As always though, do be careful as they are sharp and will cut fingers if not careful (like all cutters!)
