“ Brand: De Cuisine / Product Type: Spoon „
I don't really get a chance to do a huge amount of baking but I do enjoy it when I do get the time, when I was shopping for the kitchen bits for my house last year I came across the De Cuisine Blue Measuring Spoon set (unfortunately not pink though) As most people will find recipes often ask for such a small amount of a certain ingredient that it is impossible to measure, I also find that recopies often ask for a teaspoon of something, by the time you have the ingredient balanced on the spoon and have got it to the bowl some of the ingredient has been spilt, again making it not a very accurate way of measuring. So when I saw the measuring spoon set I had to have it as it would make cooking so much easier.
Basically this set of measuring spoons look like miniature bowls on handles. The spoons are made from stainless steel with a stainless steel handle, part of the handles are covered with a light blue plastic for easy and comfortable grip. The spoon ends are welded to the handles making them very secure and unlikely to break or bend when using them. The set of spoons all have a small hole in the end of each handle this allows them to be treaded onto the split ring that they come with making storage very easy, and it keeps the set together meaning you do not have to rummage around trying to find the size you are looking for. The bowl area of the spoons have a flat surround, this make it easy to sweep a knife over the top levelling the ingredients making measuring much more accurate. The size of each spoon is written clearly on the handle in yellow so you know exactly which spoon to use.
The set contains 4 sized measuring spoons including
I personally find it particularly useful having the 1/4 and the 1/2 teaspoons, measuring a tablespoon or a teaspoon isn't too bad, although never totally accurate however when a recipe asks for half or quarter measures its a different story and I find that very difficult to measure, however with the De Cuisine measuring spoons it is much easier. All you do is simply scoop up the ingredient in the size spoon you require and level off the top with a knife, the bowl shaped ends make measuring accurate and mean you can transfer the ingredients to you mixing bowl without spilling any, which I always seem to do when using regular spoons for measuring.
I am not 100% sure as to whether these are dish washer proof or not as the packaging they came with was dispensed with a long time ago and we do not have a dishwasher, however they are very easy to keep clean, there are no grooves or small areas where food can get caught, simply washing them in a bowl of hot soapy water and thoroughly drying them is enough to keep them in excellent condition. My measuring spoons have been used and washed many time over the months that I have had them and they are still looking in very good condition and are showing no signs of wear and tear. Stainless steel is known to be hardwearing and durable, however I have found in the past that kitchen items with plastic covered handles often start to look a bit tatty and worn after a lot of use, but not with the De Cuisine measuring spoons, they look just as good as when I first bought them, I did wonder whether the size which is written on the handle of the spoons would wear off in time but this is still just as clear and easy to read.
I bought my set of measuring spoons online at www.decusine.co.uk and only came across this website by chance whilst having a look around for some reasonably priced kitchen equipment for the house we were buying. The spoon set cost me £7.80, so not what I would call particularly cheap for just 4 measuring spoons, however personally I feel they have been well worth the money, they are not an item that I use every day of the week but they do make measuring out ingredients when baking much easier as well as more accurate. They have also proved to be very durable and hardwearing so I have definitely got my moneys worth.
Overall I would definitely recommend the De Cuisine measuring spoon set, for me they are a very useful kitchen accessory and would be handy to have in any kitchen, they are hardwearing, easy to store and make measuring very accurate. Despite the slightly high price for just 4 spoons I would certainly say that they are worth it.
You will often see items from the De Cuisine range advertised in magazines, the company produce a mammoth range of kitchen and cookware plus countless other things that would really interest anyone who is a keen cook.
De Cuisine produce two sets of measuring spoons, one set has lovely pale blue plastic handles and the other set has slightly chunkier black plastic handles.
The set of pale blue measuring spoons are in my opinion far more attractive but the black handled set will match any kitchen and in all honesty they do look a little more robust than the pale blue set.
Measuring spoons are not an essential but I have always owned a set, when it comes down to measuring out tiny quantities it is the far easier way.
This set of De Cuisine measuring spoons have a contemporary appearance. I usually store my measuring spoons away in a drawer but these look good enough to have out on display.
De Cuisine say that the measuring spoons are made to a professional standard and when you examine the spoons closely you can see that they are well made.
There are four spoons in the set, a quarter teaspoon, a half teaspoon, one teaspoon and a tablespoon.
This set of De Cuisine measuring spoons comes is priced at just under £10.
The measuring spoons are made of high quality heavy gauge stainless steel and you can instantly see that the bowls of the spoons are well made. All of the De Cuisine measuring spoons have a levelling edge , when you have filled the spoon it is then so easy to run the knife along the top of the bowl and level it off properly.
The black plastic handles feel soft yet comfortable when you hold them and because they are that little bit thicker there is plenty there to get a good grip of. Toward the bottom of the handle De Cuisine have added a layer of ridges to the soft plastic and this gives you room for an even better grip.
The set of De Cuisine blue measuring spoons have the measurements marked on the handles, this black plastic set have the measurements marked on the edge of the bowl of the spoon, I can see the measurements plainly but some could be tempted to say that they can see the measurements on the pale blue handles far more clearly, it is entirely up to the individual.
The stainless steel measuring spoon bowls are welded onto the handle using two stainless steel prongs, then at the tip of the handle there is a built in hanging hook, the hook is a decent size.
The set of four measuring spoons come on a split ring which is ideal when it comes to putting them away or hanging them up.
I don't own a dishwasher but the set of De Cuisine measuring spoons can safely be washed in a dishwasher. The spoons will last me for years, after all it isn't everyday that you need to use a measuring spoon. Though the handles are a little thicker they still slide in and out of jars and packets very easily. If you are measuring syrup or liquid then the soft plastic handle rests well against the edge of the jar or tin.
Maybe there would only be one thing to look out for - the smaller spoons could easily get mislaid ( like the vegetable knife that gets lost in the peelings ) so you need to make sure that you put them to one side once you have used them.
Other than that a great set of measuring spoons from De Cuisine.
I always have a set of measuring spoons although they do tend to last me for many years so it's rare I have to replace a set. However, my most recent set is rather bulky and the cord which keeps them together is thick and unwieldy so I had trouble keeping them tidy in my kitchen drawer.
While placing an order at www.decuisine.co.uk I had a browse of their measuring spoons and decided to order a set as they have an attractive design and also seem more practical to me as there are just four spoons compared to the six or eight that I usually have in a set.
The four measurements on this set of spoons are 1/4 teaspoon, 1/2 teaspoon, 1 teaspoon and 1 tablespoon which is perfect for the type of measuring I do on a regular basis. They come on a good sized hanging ring which isn't overly bulky like a set of Weight Watchers spoons I was given recently where the triangular hanging loop is ridiculously big. This one is fine, I use it to hang the spoons on a hook in my kitchen and they sit nice and snug to the wall rather than poking out at strange angles like my last set of spoons.
I like the handles of the spoons as they are a smooth soft plastic which is nicely moulded to sit comfortably in my hand but doesn't slip and slide around when my hands are wet. The measure of the spoon is clearly marked in gold on the handle, I haven't had the spoons long but the gold markings look like they will be hard wearing and even if time does strip the colouring the measures will still be visible as they are slightly indented.
The bowl of the spoon is a nice conical shape which makes them look almost like tiny woks, I really like the appearance of these measuring spoons as I think they look functional yet stylish. My daughter thinks they are retro looking and apparently remind her of the cutlery she ate with in infant school!
The bowl is perfectly flat at the top which makes precise measuring simple, all I have to do is run the back of a knife across it and this will give me a perfect level measurement. Unfortunately the age old problem of fitting a tablespoon into a spice jar hasn't been resolved with this set of spoons, but I'm a dab hand at tilting the jars to get a measurement now!
The only thing I dislike about these measuring spoons is the fact that the bowl and handle are not made from one single piece of metal, they have been welded together at the edge of the bowl. The weld looks to be secure but surely this weakens the spoon over time and is a slight design flaw in my opinion.
Overall I am very happy with my new set of measuring spoons and look forward to many years of cooking with them, they cost £7.95 which may seem expensive considering Poundland sell measuring spoons but these are a quality kitchen utensil and more substantial than cheaper plastic brands.
