Dr Oetker Fun Baking Cases:
Hot on the heels of my recent spate of baking related reviews is this review of Dr Oetker Fun Baking Cases.
These are what I would refer to as "Cup Cake Cases" and they are essential part of kitchen kit. I make cup cakes often, it's therapeutic and I get a good sense of achievements making something so pretty so quickly and with so little effort.
You can get so many different varieties of cup cake cases but what makes these special is that they are decorated so they instantly make your cup cakes look prettier. There are two "sets" of these each containing seventy five paper cases in three designs. The ones I buy most often are the girlier set of the two containing turquoise, pink and brightly floral cases. The other set has red, yellow and multi coloured spotty cases. Both sets look very modern and I am sure kids would love baking with them, (they'd make very nice rice crispy/cornflake nests over Easter), so it's great that there is a set perfect for boys as they so often get missed out from things like this.
The cases come in a clear plastic tub with a lid that fits on nice and securely to make sure the cases stay in perfect condition when not in use. There is a disc of turquoise card on both the bottom and top of the tub. The packaging is decorated with bunting and looks very nice.
These are obviously very simple to use, just pop one in each "dip" on a bun tray/Yorkshire pudding tray, (they are best used with a tray as the cake batter can cause them to collapse and you can end up with weirdly shaped cup cakes), fill with cake batter and cook!
These are really good for the price, (89p at Morrison's, £1.09 from www.oetkeronline.co.uk), the only problem I have with them is that they allow some of the fat from the cakes to soak through the bottle so they can leave greasy marks on the cake stand/plate you display them on. When I have guests that I serve cupcakes to I sometimes pop the cakes, (case and all), into a second case when they come out of the oven and are cool.
I recommend these to anyone who regularly makes cupcakes.
