Egg Perfect Colour Changing Egg Timer
Advantages: Times eggs perfectly, great price, decent invention
Disadvantages: needs to be constantly watched
When it comes to Kitchen gadgets and utensils it would seem that my Auntie really has an eye for a good product. She tends to pick them up from Lakeland, or as with this egg timer from Betterware and once she's satisfied that it does exactly what it's meant to she tends to buy one for my cousin, my mum and for Jen and I. As a result we got a Betterware Egg Perfect Timer when she came to visit last year as an additional Wedding present. As we both enjoy boiled eggs to either dunk some toast into or hard boiled in a salad this seemed like an excellent addition to our kitchen.
What is It
The Egg Perfect Timer is a device for timing how long you should leave an egg in the water in order to get soft, medium or hard boiled eggs. Traditionally this was done by a timer stood at the side of the cooker; however this device adopts a new, more accurate method of timing how long you need to cook your egg for. You place the egg timer actually in the water with the eggs and rather than relying on a best guess at how long it should take the timer detects the heat of the water and indicates what stage of the cooking process it is currently at.
But How Does It Do That?
The Egg Perfect Timer is when cold red and displays three black lines inside the plastic egg shaped coating to indicate soft, medium and hard. As the water heats up the red colour recedes and turns clear in order to indicate which stage of the cooking process the eggs are currently at. Once the clear section of the egg reaches your desired type of egg you simply turn the heat off and drain the eggs and from our experience your eggs will be exactly as you want them. Once it's finished and cooling the timer turns red again ready for its next plunge into the saucepan.
Egg Perfect Timer And Us
This is one of two options we have for boiling eggs as we also have a John Lewis Egg boiler that plugs in and does it all automatically but I've found we get much better results using the Betterware Egg Perfect Timer. It is a quick and easy method for timing eggs and I feel works a lot better than the original timers that sit alongside the cooker. By gauging the temperature of the water it provides a more accurate assessment of how well the eggs are cooking. I often like a soft boiled egg and have found that the results using the egg Perfect Timer have been far better than any other way of boiling eggs.
We were given our timer as a present but they are available in a wide ranging price bracket as I have seen them in the pound shop for, surprisingly £1 and in the likes of Lakeland for £4.99. this particular version of the Egg Perfect Timer came from the Betterware catalogue and currently costs £3.99 from that outlet.
For the price this is an excellent product and one I really would have no hesitation in recommending highly. It does have one flaw in that you have to keep a close eye on the pan as they are cooking to make sure you get the right eggs as it doesn't beep or ping when it gets to the desired egg type, but it does tend to cook them better due to its close proximity and egg like design. Other than this one flaw though this is an excellent gadget to have on hand in the kitchen if you enjoy boiled eggs of any consistency. A great product that no home should be without.
