Advantages: Well Made, Looks good, Great for many things.
Disadvantages: None
The SLOM jar from Ikea is actually nothing like its strange name. I find it strange that all the products from Ikea have these weird names, but if it sells then why change it. I was given this glass jar as part of a birthday present as my sister had filled it full of sweets.
--- The Jar ---
The jar is made of glass which is about 4mm thick through-out. This makes the jar quite bulky but also gives it a strong and sturdy feel to it. The glass is colourless which is good if you wish to store different things in these jars as it allows you to clearly see what is in it. I have stored many different things in this jar, such as candles, nuts, raisins and sweets.
The jar has a volume of 0.5l, with dimensions of 10.5cm tall and 11cm in diameter. This gives the jar a nice round volume that makes all the contents easily visible and accessible. The lid is also made of glass, however it seems to be a bit thicker than the rest of the jar. The lid has a silicon rubber "washer" on it that helps to properly seal the jar once it is closed. This helps to keep the jar air tight to help keep the contents fresher for longer.
The lid is attached to the main body of the jar by a metal hinge and clip. When opened, the lid folds open to rest against the surface and when you close it, it easily fits back on the jar. The clasp on the jar is easy to operate and once it has been closed it holds the jar firmly shut until it is next opened. This is good as it means the contents won't spill, even if you have liquids in it. It also helps to keep the silicon rubber seal tight, which keeps the jar air tight.
--- Where To Buy ---
This specific jar can only be bought at Ikea for the low cost of 91p, however you can buy similar jars from other shops as it is a universal design.
You can also get this jar in 1l, 1.8l and 2l variants which give you a good range of sizes for many different uses.
--- The Verdict ---
I can't find any faults with this jar whatsoever as it is a really versatile jar that I have found many uses for. I really like the solid construction of it and how sturdy it is. The next time I am at Ikea I will probably buy one of the bigger ones as they would be good to store pasta/spaghetti in.
I am therefore going to give this jar 5/5 as it is a very good product and I would highly recommend it.
Thanks for reading.
