Advantages: Plenty of uses
Disadvantages: None for me
I bought five of these jars from Ikea before Christmas, I had no idea what I intended doing with them at the time but felt they would be useful. The Slom Jar is a glass storage jar with a lid, my Nan would have called it a kilner jar. Ikea has them in several shapes but I particularly liked this little squat one I liked the shape.
As I mentioned when I bought these I just liked the look of them, the shape etc and really didn't have any idea what I would use them for. In the end I used 2 of them to store dry food in, pasta in one and rice in the other, the others were filled with different things and given as presents, they are so useful you could use them for anything.
The slom jar measures approximately 11cm's high and has a diameter of 10cm's, it is made of clear glass so if you are using them for storage its easy to see what's in them. They have a metal clasp made from stainless steel which wraps around the lid of the jar and clips the lid tightly down over a silicone rubber seal. The Slom jar is dishwasher safe should you be lucky enough to have one.
A I mentioned I used 2 of my jars for dried products but really you could use these for anything, the others I filled with different things for presents. In one I put some home made fudge, another one I filled with pretty soaps and the third one was used for cookies. Wrapped in cellophane with ribbon these made lovely gifts with a practical jar to use as well. The Slom jar would also look nice in a bathroom with cotton wool balls or bath bombs in too.
I would definitely recommend these jars, at round about £1.00 each they are a great price and they have a variety of uses. I plan on buying some more and trying my hand at liqueur making and bottled fruit. The jars are strong and definitely worth the small price tag. The clear glass means its easy to see what's in them but you could easily stick pretty labels on them too.
If you are looking for some nice storage jars or something cheap and cheerful to fill and give as a gift then these may well fit the bill.
