Judge Potato Ricer
Advantages: perfect mashed potato every single time
Disadvantages: a bit fiddly to clean
I've had this potato ricer for a number of years now, and it is still in perfect condition and still works perfectly.
My only slight issue with it is that it is a bit fiddly to clean. If you don't have a dishwasher then you need to pop it in the washing up bowl to soak straight away otherwise the dried on mashed potato will be a bugger to remove. I do put mine in the dishwasher but sometimes it doesn't come clean on the first wash, it has to go through again.
I like this particular potato ricer as it has the holes on both the sides and the bottom of the bowl, a lot of the potato ricers that you see in the shops only have holes on the bottom. I've read many reviews on these and I believe that this can cause excess potato to push up and out of the bowl without going through the ricer. I've never had any problems like that at all with mine.
It is simple and easy to use, all you need to do is to lift the top handle up to expose the bowl and then spoon in a few potatoes, close the handle and the 'lid' attached to the handle will then push the potatoes through the holes and rice them. You need to do this a few times to rice all your potatoes as it will only hold a few at a time, but once you get the knack it only takes a few minutes. Once you have riced all your potatoes just give them a stir with a wooden spoon and add any butter or cream as you see fit. If you want to be healthy and not add any extras then riceing the potatoes definately makes them creamy enough to do this.
You do not even need to peel your potatoes before boiling them, if you choose not to peel the potaoes then the skins will be caught in the bowl of the ricer they will not go through, all you need to do then is lift them out before putting your next batch of potatoes in.
This makes perfect fluufy mashed potatoes every single time, no lumps ever. It is so simple and quick and easy to use, you will wonder how you ever managed without one! I would reccomend that you choose a potato ricer with holes on bothe the sides and the bottom of the bowl though as I think that these do work better.
