Advantages: Highly flexible and versatile
Disadvantages: Doesn't withstand very high temperatures
There are so many kitchen spatulas on the market of varying colours, designs and sizes. The Kenwood spatula is a very basic slim spatula made of clear/white plastic. I really wouldn't want to be without mine, it is one of the most used tools in my kitchen. I'm often cooking or baking and do own other spatulas but they are rarely used, the Kenwood is the one I reach for every time.
The advantage of this spatula is that it is so very thin, flat and extremely flexible. It is strong enough to manipulate easily and will bend just as you need it to. When you use it to scrape cake mixture from a bowl the result can be an almost totally clean bowl. Nothing is wasted with this pliable spatula and I find it so versatile. I use it for scooping out all sorts of food mixtures from bowls or dishes, also sauces from wide jars. I also find it ideal for spreading or smoothing fillings and toppings and use it for lifting delicate pastries or similar.
It can be used for warm to medium hot food, for instance I use it for removing all the mashed potato from a saucepan, but very high temperatures will melt it slightly and it will remain permanently bent at the end. It is dishwasher safe (although not on a too higher temperature) but also very easy to clean.
I actually have two of these spatulas in my kitchen just in case one is caught up in the dishwasher. I think I use the Kenwood spatula every day at some point and if I get really involved with cooking then I'll use it several times for various tasks. Very handy. I have given a Kenwood spatula to my daughter and she now won't use any other spatula.
The drawbacks are that it doesn't seem to be easy to source these spatulas, they are available from Lakeland and also Kenwood. They may be on sale in certain high street stores or kitchen specialists but not in my area. They don't necessarily last for a long time, mine last for approximately a year but I admit I tend to get them involved with too higher temperatures too often. However, the way they save any waste of food makes them excellent value for money at £1.99 each. So, without hesitation, 5 stars for the Kenwood spatula and I highly recommend it.
