I really like bananas but I am really fussy and they cannot be too green but they also cannot be brown, I have tried for ages to find a way to keep my bananas just right for longer as going to the shop every 2 days for fresh bananas as then I just end up spending a fortune. My Mam saw something on TV about bananas and apparently you need to keep your bananas out of plastic bags and away from other fruit otherwise there is a chemical reaction which causes the bananas to ripen quicker.
With my fresh knowledge I bought this banana stand from the website www.cookingtime. co.uk which is a site I would highly recommend they seem to have a solution to all cooking and kitchen issues. The banana stand cost me about £4.50 last year and now costs £4.75 so the pice has risen a little but I suppose that is to be expected. I have seen similar items in other stores but they have always been more expensive.
The banana stand is made of chrome so is silver in colour, the colour suits me fine as my kitchen is black, white and wood so the silver ties in nicely, the stand is a soert of oval shape at the bottom and then the chrome pieces curve upover and join at the top in a soft point which is where the bananas hang.
The stand is pretty sturdy with a wider base than bottom to balance the bananas so the stand soesn't fall over, to use the stand you simply place the bananas over the point which means you cannot place single bananas on the stand as there has to be at least two attatched together to hold on.
The banana stand is brilliant and it really does help the bananas stay fresh for longer and then when they do start to brown off the process is drawn out so I have time to feed them to my children instead of me! I think this is a great idea and a good price too and the site doesn't charge postage to locations in the UK which is an added bonus.
