Advantages: So cute!

Disadvantages: None

Some time ago, Azana wrote a review on the Dino sandwich cutter, and I fell in love with it just from the picture, and decided that I was going to buy one whether it was any good or not . Luckily, she gave it the full 5 stars, so off I trotted to Lakeland to buy myself one, only to find my local store didn't have any in stock. However, the lady working in the shop told me of another shop that sold similar products. She didn't think they had the dinosaur, but she was sure they had some dolphins .

I went to take a look, and decided I would happily give this pair of frolicking sea beasts a home!Measuring about 11x11cm, this cutter is made of fairly thin blue plastic, and is rather squarish in shape. You can clearly see the shape of the two dolphins, and the designers have even managed to cleverly work in a heart to use up some of the spare bread.

This cuts through bread easily, though I would say it works best with ordinary white or wholemeal - those slightly softer loaves with nuts and seeds in tend to fall apart. It just takes one firm push, and a little gentle prodding to get the dolpins out of the cutter, and there aren't too many fiddly thin bits. Despite going through bread well, there are no sharp edges where a child could hurt themselves.

You're left with small but perfectly formed little sandwiches, that seem to almost taste better because of the fun shape. Using a standard loaf, there is very little wastage, and of course the spare crusts can be used to feed the birds, or turned into breadcrumbs and used to thicken up sauces. The larger loaves do leave more wasted bread.

Washing this is very easy - a quick swish in hot soapy water and it's as good as new. The cutter does seem like it might be quite flimsy, but does come with a one year guarantee, which is reassuring.

You can purchase this online - the cheapest I have found is £2.50 from Amazon with free delivery, which I think is excellent value for money. I still plan on getting the dinosaur version at some point, but I'm delighted with my dolphins!
