Kitchen Craft Master Class Flask
Advantages: works well ,high quality and saves me money!
Disadvantages: none for me
I am trying to eat healthily and save money! Both these aims can be achieved with a little planning and effort. For lunch I often have home made soup as it is not only cheap to make and good for you, but is also very easy to make. My family really enjoy meals cooked in the slow cooker, such as beef or vegetable stew. There is often enough left over for me to take for lunch the next day. With this in mind I recently bought a stainless steel food/soup flask from my local department store. Although it was expensive at over £20, I thought it would pay for itself with the money I would save fro buying expensive ready made shop bought lunches.
The flask I have is made by master class and can hold 1 litres of food or liquid. It is made from double walled stainless steel, designed to keep food and drink either hot or cold for several hours. The flask has a wide neck to allow it to be filled with food. There is an insulated stopper with integral spout to allow liquids to be poured safely. There is a stainless steel cup included that screws onto the neck of the flask. The flask has a useful plastic extendable handle that folds onto the body of the flask when not in use. There is a webbed carry strap that can be unclipped from the handle. Overall the flask looks and feels of high quality as you would expect for its high price tag!
I have been using this flask on a daily basis for several weeks now so feel able to review it! The first thing to say is that the wide neck makes it easy to fill. I make large batches of soup at the weekend and then freeze some. It is easy to heat a portion and then fill the flask in the morning ready for lunch later in the day. I have been really impressed by how long food stays hot. Even after 6 hours my soup was still piping hot. The same is true for stew and hot drinks such as tea and coffee. I have not used the flask to carry cold drinks yet, but have no reason to think the excellent insulation will be anything but effective.
After being used to carry a variety of hot food, it is important that the flask is easy to clean. The last thing I want is to be able to detect the previous days lunch the next day! The flask is dishwasher safe, although you do need to remove the stopper, carry handle and cup first. I have a long handles brush that I use for giving the flask a good scrub inside to ensure it is properly cleaned. I then wash it in the dishawasher. The stopper and cup and easy to wash by hand.
I have owned several flasks before with a glass interior. These have never lasted long as they tend to break! The stainless steel version is almost unbreakable although it does have a couple of dents already! These do not damage the flask and add to its character!
The extendable handle is really useful as it helps to hold the flask steady as you fill it or pour. The spout is only useful for liquids as any large pieces of food would not be able to pass through. .
The webbed carry handle is not something that impresses me. It is designed to enable the flask to be carried over your shoulder. I recently took my children for a long walk followed by a winter picnic. I filled the flask with some homemade leek and potato soup to warm us up. I tried to carry the flask using the carry strap but found it dug into my shoulder and was very uncomfortable.
The flask is available from several retailers and I see Amazon is selling it for £19.67.
Overall I can highly recommend this flask. It does exactly what it promises!
