Lakeland Orange Peelers
Advantages: Simple to use cheap and stops bits of orange flying all over the place
Why this gadget
I am sure most people who like oranges will know that they can be tricky things to get into. This generally involves biting into the skin and peeling it away gradually or clawing your way into them with your nails. This simple but effective gadget stops this and makes peeling oranges as easy as 1 2 3. I personally have used these peelers since my mother first discovered them at Lakeland when I was a child more years ago than I care to remember.
What are they, how they work and why buy one!
They come in a pack of two so they can go in multiple lunch boxes. They are made of sturdy plastic similar in some ways to Tupperware strong plastic. They have a curved main body. On one side is a round circle for you to put your finger through to hold the peeler in place. The other side has a triangular pointy bit to dig into the peel of the orange. To use this simple gadget you hold the orange in one hand place the peeler through your finger the image that comes to mind is you wearing it like a knuckle duster really. Then score the orange going around it in a circular motion from the top to the bottom. The tapered ends can then be used to dig under the peel and take it off, making it possible to peel an orange without getting orange peel under your fingers and quickly in a few pieces rather than it coming away with part of the flesh as can sometimes happen if you are just using your fingers.
Now if you are wondering why you should invest in another kitchen gadget the reasons are simple. :
*This makes peeling oranges easy and quick with the minimal of mess. Oranges are notorious for sending bits of juice flying around the office or where ever you are and this cuts this right down.
*It helps I find with encouraging my son to have oranges as he finds the process of me doing the peeling this way fascinating.
*It will mean you never have a sad looking orange at the bottom of the fruit bowl because you can't be bothered with the hassle of peeling it.
*They are small enough to fit into a lunch box so are easy to take to work to help boost your vitamin C levels to combat all of these winter sneezes and diseases.
*At under a £1 they are a wonderfully cheap gadget and they don't take up unnecessary storage in cupboards.
*They work on all citrus fruit so can also be used with grapefruit and tangerines.
Another winner from Lakeland plastic that I would recommend to anyone who loves oranges but finds them fiddly and off putting to peel
They are available form Lakeland stores and their online shop and catalogue for 77pence for a pack of two
Summary: A wonderful gadget from Lakeland to help you peel those stubborn oranges
