      Not worth the money

When we moved into our first house together, Mr Norton & I spent ages looking for cuter than average things such as storage jars, salt and pepper shakers, the small things you need to buy when you move. I was browsing the Lego online shop and was delighted to see lego salt & pepper shakers that look like large lego pieces. They are designed for homeware use and are not toy pieces of lego. I checked on e-bay to see if there were any one sale for any cheaper than the RRP (£12.95) and eventually found a pair for £7 so I bought these. They are currently available on Amazon for around the same price. When the parcel turned up a few days later, I was disappointed when I opened it as these are intended to be kitchen salt and pepper shakers- ie they are not a toy to go in a dolls house or play items- they are real useable kitcheware items. But they are TINY- each one measures only 4.3cm high and only 2.2cm diameter. So they are less than an inch wide and under two inches high. None of the photos I had seen of these had anything in the photo so I could gauge the size so I assumed they were double the size they actually turned out to be in real life! One is black and one white, each is made wholly of plastic and they are both identical aside from the colour. So they both have the word "LEGO" printed across the top and each have four small holes in the top to shake your salt or pepper out of. You get two in a pack- one white and one black. To fill these with salt or pepper, all you do is pull the bottom section off- similar to pulling lego bricks apart- the bottom sections just push together and there is no twist and lock mechanism. It would be easy for children to pull the bottom section off and tip the contents all over your table so I think these are really designed as a kitch kitchen item for adults rather than for children. Though, the 9-12 age bracket may enjoy these as they are cute. They are easy to wash as they are just plastic inside and out. Overall, I think these are overpriced for what you get. I have bought many other lego homeware items which have been brilliant, but these just seem to miss the mark due to their size. If they could make them twice the size or more like the size of standard salt and pepper pots that you can buy in every supermarket this would make them much more attractive for the price. They are easily missed on a normal sized dining table as they are so small. So you cannot even use them as a cute feature of your table setting for dinner parties as no-one would notice them!
