Nigella Lawson Living Kitchen Mixing Bowls
Advantages: Works well ,great design, look really attractive
Disadvantages: Coyuld be a little bit deeper and the initial cost
I really enjoy cooking; sometimes I wish I had a bit more time on my hands to be able to do more. When we moved into our house I was lucky enough to be able to have some lovely kitchen items brought for me. Friends and family brought us a couple of lovely Le Creuset dishes as well as a set of the mixing bowls by Nigella Lawson. I would never normally go out and buy one of these products as to put it bluntly, they are really expensive, however as a gift I was amazed at peoples generosity as I appreciate the expense involved.
The Nigella Lawson bowls are in a set of three but as I mentioned above, the cost is not cheap. Looking on Amazon the bowls are currently retailing for £42.00. I can see that even for an individual bowl you are looking at £14.00 so the £42.00 is a lot of money to pay out. However, I think you are paying for a name as much as anything but there is a definite quality to these bowls and they look as good today as when I was first brought them. You can look online to buy them and the cost may come down a little, if not I have seen the range in department stores.
The bowls themselves are quite an unusual shape and when you get something like this, I often have a tendency to hide it away until we have people over but because they are so nice I try and use them on a more regular basis and (touchwood) I have not managed to break one yet! The bowls that I have are a slightly off white but not quite cream colour, I really like the design, these are not a traditional looking bowl, certainly not a mixing bowl shape but at the same time they all have practical uses.
The dimension of the bowls are the smallest being 20 x 16 x 9, then the second size up is 26 x 21 x 12 and then the largest bowl is shaped with a 32 x 26 x 12 dimension. I use these bowls to cook in and then to present the final dish at the dinner table. I first found mixing a little odd, nothing really that crucial, it was just getting used to the shape but I like that this sort of oval design was different, they make quite a statement.
The dishes cannot be used in the oven but you can use them on a quick setting in the microwave, I actually use the large dish to mix some salad into and present it like that, the middle one is often used when I have a dinner party to serve a side dish in and the smaller one is always on the go, whether it's for when I am mixing stuff when baking or making sauces and flavourings in. You have plenty of room to work in these dishes as the space is quite wide but they are not the deepest of bowls so certain mixtures you may struggle a little bit but when I tend to generally cook for 2 or 4 at weekends then I have never had an issue but mixing larger batters and it may be a little more difficult for space.
I think it is just the design that works so well, the ceramic material never dates and even though these are always on the go, still look great. They are dishwasher safe so you can clean them at high temperatures and mine have never faded or chipped.
In summary, whilst I appreciate the cost, there is a fantastic quality there and if you ever see these in a sale snap them up! For me, having had my own home for several years now they have paid off as I have not had to invest in any others. The quality, shape and design works really well in my opinion.
4 out of 5 from me
Thank you for reading
