If you've ever burnt a pan and then struggled to soak it properly as it won't fit flat into the washing up bowl, then this is for you. I love, love, love this item.
Normann Copenhagen design and produce unusual and good quality items. They are products you look at, then after a few minutes find yourself wanting. Great for wedding lists.
The current cost is around £50 - price varies depending on the colour and retailer.
*** What is it? ***
This is a washing up bowl which is made of thick flexible rubber. It comes with a wooden brush with soft bristles (as shown in the photo). There are a wide range of colours available.
It has a wide section which is turned over at the top. You can flip that back over to make a taller bowl to soak tall items.
The flexible rubber is quite thick so I haven't managed to accidentally puncture or cut it, even with sharp knives.
*** What is great about it? ***
When you want to put the frying pan into soak, you just push it down and the bowl deforms to accomodate it. That is such an absolutely fantastic feature which I am grateful for every day.
A serving plate? Casserole dish? Long handled tongs? Whatever you need to get into the water, the bowl will accomodate it.
Anyone who washes up a lot will understand just why we needed a designer to understand that not all items fit in rigid plastic bowls.
Not only can you soak items but I find it is much quicker to do the washing up as all items can actually get under the water - no more turning and turning items around.
The range of colours is also fantastic as you can get a really dramatic pink, black, deep red or blue - really match and enhance your kitchen. The colours also stay true, despite the hot water. I've been using mine around 5 years and it still looks great. You would never know it has been used and abused for so long.
*** What is not so great about it ***
User error! When you first push a pan down, try and ensure you haven't filled the bowl too high or you splash yourself and the worktop with soapy water.
As the bowl is flexible, it is more wobbly in your hands so if you lift a bowl of water out of the sink and put it on the worktop, it is easy to send water splashing out when you put it down.
Ultimately, this is a great lifetime gift and makes washing up so much easier and more pleasureable. Everyone should have one. I can't praise it enough and am so glad to have it. I wish there were more stars to rate it with. I know the price is high but cheaper bowls get scratched, marked and need replacing. This one looks like it will just keep going and going.
