Pyrex Measuring Jug
Advantages: Long lasting
Disadvantages: Can be hard to pour
I actually brought this just for a jug and did not realise all the special qualities it had until afterwards. It is made of special glass meaning it is a lot more durable than most and is freezer safe, dishwasher safe and can withstand really high temperatures so it is really flexible in its uses. You can buy it in a 500ml version and a 1l version which is the one I have.
The great thing about this jug is the markings are so clear making it easy to measure out liquids without straining my eyes. The markings are on both sides which mean it is great for right and left handed people. The measurements start at 200 ml so it is a guessing game for anything under this but usually this is not a problem for me. It then climbs in 100ml measures so comes in really handy. Even though we have had this jug for a numbers of years there is no fading to the measuring marking at all which I have previously had problems with on other jugs.
The glass of the jug is rather thick and bulky not thin like a lot of other jugs available and it really does look and feel well made. The handle starts at the top of the jug but them comes away from it leaving a nice large gap in between the jug and the handle so when there is hot liquids in it you do not catch yourself on the glass. This means that the jug is on the heavy side but not so much so that it is difficult to use which is fantastic.
The handle on it is a very good size and you can get a good grip on it easily I have dropped it a few times but not from great heights and it has not chipped or broken. They are very durable I have had mine for around 2 years and it is still going strong. It is stain and scratch resistant meaning it looks brand new as soon as it is clean and it is very easy to clean a few wipes in the washing up bowl and it is good as new and it does get very messy so it is fantastic that it cleans so well.
The jug is really wide which is fantastic for whisking as you can easily move a Wisk inside it and have freedom to spin it around and around which I do not find with many other jugs. It can also be used in the microwave which is really practical and I think it is fantastic.
My main uses for this jug are measuring out milk and such for recipes, making gravy and also storing things in the fridge if we have any left over as it can withstand both hot and cold it is perfect for both using in the microwave and storing things in the fridge.
The major downside with this jug is the spout it is too wide and no matter how carefully or slowly you try to pour the liquid out it just spills everywhere. I have tried every angel possible and everything I can and although I can limit the amount of mess it makes some always go wrong.
They retail at around £5 and I do believe it is worth every penny it is durable and practical apart from a small draw back that you cannot drizzle anything everything ends up being covered by a waterfall. They are widely available at Amazon, Argos in fact just about any large retailer so you will have no problem picking one up.
Summary: A fantastic Jug
