Pyrex Measuring Jug
Advantages: Good quality & sturdy, clearly labelled measurements, versatile (eg. with heat, freezer, dishwasher)
Disadvantages: None for me
I don't like paying over the odds for something basic like a measuring jug but having bought cheaper alternatives and plastic ones I've always found Pyrex to be the best in terms of quality and ease of use.
The Pyrex Measuring jugs are available in different sizes depending on what you want, but I opted for the 0.5L as I knew it would be enough for measuring small quantities and using it to pour liquids (ie. yummy gravy for Sunday lunch). Its 1 pint capacity is suitable enough for me, but you can upgrade for a little bit more and get 1L if necessary.
The jug is clear glass with red lines / numbers for measurement. It's made from Borosilicate glass for higher 'thermal shock resistance' so it's quite thick, sturdy stuff. To the side is an open ended handle and to the top is a small 'spout', which makes it easier to grip, hold and pour. The glass is also stain resistant, which I found quite interesting as anything you put in it shouldn't stain or leave any scent (it doesn't retain flavours).
The jug is dishwasher safe whilst also being suitable for ovens (conventional) and microwaves to a temperature of up to 300 degrees. In addition, you can also use them for storage, such as if you want to keep milk in the fridge or freeze a liquid in the freezer, which is good to know as it makes them more multi-functional.
I find Pyrex jugs to be very good quality; my recent 0.5L one was purchased for around £4 and it's lasted well without any problems. It's easy to use as the handle makes it easy to hold. The spout provides smooth, accurate pouring, which is something similar products don't always do well. For this reason on its own, I prefer Pyrex. The glass is sturdy and I like that it's versatile to be able to go in the fridge, freezer, microwave and oven, which gives you more options should you want them. The numbers / measurements are also clear and easy to read, and I've not noticed any fading of this despite much use and washing.
All in all, I would definitely recommend a Pyrex jug as a kitchen essential. It's sturdy, good quality, easy to use and also comes with a 10 year guarantee against manufacturer defect, which is good to know.
These are selling on Amazon for 0.5L at £4.45 and 1L at £6.49
Summary: A kitchen must-have measuring jug
