Advantages: cute, useful

Disadvantages: only big enough for teeny things

If you are looking for something to pep up children's lunch boxes or store leftovers then these little mini boxes from Rice are ideal. They come in three different shapes; a square, rectangle and a five petalled flower and, as you can see from the photo, come in varied colours so you can mix and match the boxes and lids. They are really quite teeny, having a 70ml capacity and being about 6cm wide and 4cm high. They are freezer, dishwasher and food safe and are much used in my house, making them well worth the £6.25 I paid for them.

I find the boxes are perfect to hold a few grapes or chunks of cheese or even for taking on picnics to hold a small amount of butter or humus. Clearly you can't fit anything very big in them but for small snacks they are perfect. Due to their general cuteness and usefulness, several of the boxes have been requisitioned by my children to hold teeny Lego pieces and to hold their varied "treasures". The lids fit on snugly on all three shapes and are easily removed by children. Unlike cheaper storage boxes they don't seem to be prone to leaking, cracking or getting discoloured in the dishwasher, we've had them a while and they are as good as the day that we bought them.

If you need something slightly bigger Rice, a Danish home ware company, do make a set of slightly bigger boxes, but I find this set pretty indispensable really, though it might be more practical storage wise if they were all the same shape I love the different shapes, especially the little flower, and with their bright colours they can't fail to cheer you up, they really are very, very cute. I would really recommend these boxes, like other products in the Rice range they are well made, a little bit different, and something that I enjoy having in my kitchen.
