When researching on the internet about this brand I can't find much information about it, how-ever I have read that Tala is one of the most respectable brands in the kitchenware industry. When shopping for cookware I always see their products on the shelves. Tala do a great range of good quality products and some of these include Baking tins, Cookie cutters, Icing Pens and utensils such a tea strainers, Spoons, Preserving Jars and other items. You can find their items in various different shops such as Robert Dyas & you can also buy Tala items online from various different websites.
***ICING SYRINGE SET***
The Tala Piping Syringe set comes in a beautiful retro metal tin and come with a booklet on how to use the syringe and to create different shapes using the nozzles provided with the set. The Syringe and 6 icing nozzles are made from stainless steel. The nozzle can be used for writing, shells, stars, bordering and more. The step by step guide makes it easy to ice biscuits and cakes.
I purchased this from Lakeland for about £21.99. Sounds expensive I know, but very recently I have really got into my cooking and I thought I would treat myself and it came in a nice tin which also tempted me as well.
***USING THE NOZZLE***
The main thing when using a syringe is to make sure you have the writing the correct consistency otherwise the shape will not hold. Once you have mixed the icing correctly you can then spoon it into the syringe and put the top plunger section back on the syringe. The plunger part simply locks into place by turning it to the right. Simply press the plunger down until you can see the item come out the bottom and then screw on the nozzle you want to use. Simple put your thumb into the pink plunger section and your fingers into the 2 metal loops on top of the syringe and gently push down with your thumb so the icing comes out smoothly. To get the icing accurate it's also easier if you hold the main part of the syringe with the other hand.
The icing comes out the syringe very smoothly and with little pressure on the plunger. It creates beautiful effects on cakes and looks lovely when it's used on biscuits as well. Using the syringe is very easy and I found this a lot easier than I though. Of course you do need to have a steady head if you are doing bordering or writing. You do have to be careful when putting the icing into the syringe otherwise this can get very messy. I have only used this once so I need a bit more practise.
***CLEANING THE SYRINGE/NOZZLE***
Cleaning the syringe and nozzles isn't the easiest thing to do, so I just simply popped them into a bowl of warm soapy water and let them soak. Leaving them to soak softened after icing which was stuck and after a few minutes they were much easier to clean. I have read 1 review about the syringe going rusty so I made sure I dried this thoroughly before placing the syringe and nozzles back into the box.
The syringe and nozzles create some beautiful effects and is simple to use for cakes and biscuits. The tin the set comes in make's it brilliant for storing and keeping clean and safe. The booklet which comes with the set is also handy for some extra hints and tips to get the most from using the syringe. This is one of the best syringe set's I have seen available to buy as other sets are made of plastic and don't come with as many nozzles. As this set is made from stainless steel it's strong and should last a good few years and longer I hope.
I have only used this one and the plastic part of the plunger has already got 1 or 2 small splits in it which I am not too happy about seeing as the set was quite expensive to buy. As the main syringe is metal and you hold the syringe this can warm the icing up slightly which means it may become runny quite quickly. I haven't yet had any other problems with the syringe; how-ever if I do I will be sure to add them to this section of the review.
I'm am quite pleased with my purchase as this is the best syringe set I have seen available to buy and seeing that the set is made from metal it is a lot stronger than the plastic ones. I think it's great that the set comes in a storage tin which prevents it from being damaged, this would also make as nice gift as well if you know anyone who is well into their cooking. I am disappointed that the plastic plunger has got a few splits in it just after one use, but I am hoping this won't affect using the product in the future. I am worried how-ever that the splits may get bigger or that the plunger may get more splits in it which may means it becomes un-useable in the future.
