There is one item that I seem to buy on every trip to the supermarket which happens to be one of the most useful household products in my opinion. The product in question is kitchen foil. Yes, not particularly exciting in any respect but it happens to be used by millions of people on a near daily basis. I have tried various brands of kitchen foil from the more expensive to the cheapest available. As long as it can do the jobs I need it to for me that is absolutely fine.
The kitchen foil I have been using for a few months now is the Tesco Kitchen Foil (300mm x 10m) which costs a very reasonable £1.49. I had previously tried Tesco's economy range foil which was a complete waste of time and money so decided to step up a mark and try their own brand. Tesco Kitchen Foil does come in other lengths and whilst I use it quite regularly at £1.49 for a roll which will last me a few weeks (I use it sparingly) I find it perfectly good value.
As with any kitchen foil the Tesco Kitchen Foil can be found down the aisle in your local Tesco where the cling film, storage and sandwich bags are generally found nearly always near the cleaning aisles. The packaging is simple with the roll coming in a long, slim rectangular cardboard box with blue/grey colour theme with an image of food in sitting on the foil as well as the Tesco logo. On the back of the box there is information about the foil and it also has quite a handy roasting chart which has come to my help on more than one occasion! The box has the metal tear strip which you will need to be careful of.
The box opens at the one end and is easily opened as long as your careful as the flap is stuck down slightly so you can end up ripping the box if not careful. This flap sits over the metal tear strip so you do need to be careful as it is incredibly sharp. The foil comes on a cardboard roll and to start using the roll you just need to carefully remove the small bit of what looks like a piece of celotape off the roll - if your not careful you can rip the foil easily.
The foil itself is exactly what you'd expect with kitchen foil, silver in colour and shiny in finish it looks no different. Only main difference is the thickness as you can get a thicker version from Tesco. I find that the foil is easily torn by the metal strip provided that the foil is being held straight and tight at the one end so it can be torn not only in a straight line but without ripping the foil as you want it to come off in one piece. The cheaper foils I have used previous have torn far too easily causing the rest of the roll to easily damage. Where as with this foil it tears quickly and easily just as long as you do it properly rather than rush it and end up with half of the sheet missing.
I use the foil for a number of jobs whether putting in my baking tray, putting in the bottom of my oven to protect from any splashes of sauces etc and wrapping up sandwiches or other food items. I find that however I use it, it does the job well. It manages to keep food items in the fridge nice and fresh until they need to be used again, my daughter's sandwiches are kept protected in her nursery lunch bag and of course being heat resistant it manages just find in my oven even at the highest temperature! The foil for me has a decent thickness as it is incredibly easily to fold around items especially those that are not a standard shape.
For me, this non-exciting product serves the purpose well and is incredibly versatile. I've been using kitchen foil for years and I can't find fault with it. Not too thin where it is just too flimsy and not too thick where smaller pieces are useless at wrapping food items so for me it is just right. If wanting a reasonably priced kitchen foil which does what it should then the Tesco Kitchen Foil should definitely be tried and tested. Not faults or compaints from me so I can easily award it 5 stars.
