Tesco Value Flat Grater
Advantages: Cheap and does the job
Disadvantages: Bit uncomfortable to grip
I needed a new cheese grater as my old one had become a little blunt and it was becoming increasingly difficult to grate the cheese so I decided to replace it. I went for the Tesco Value Cheese Grater purely because it was the cheapest in Tesco's.
This grater was the bargain price of just 74p which you can't really argue about. It is a flat grater with three different sized grating sections with a larger section at the time, smaller section at the bottom and a long thin grating section in the middle of the grater. The plastic handle is a decent size and the grating sections are quite sharp so do cut through cheese and vegetables etc quite well.
For the price I paid I did expect it to be a little blunt and not work too well but I was pleasantly surprised at how well it works. As it is a flat grater it takes very little room to store and I have found it quite easy to wash too and any remaining bits in the grater do come out with a little wipe over with a sponge scourer which is good.
I tend to find when using cheese graters that I grasp the handle so tightly that I get blisters quite easily from them and this grater was no exception. I didn't find it particularly comfortable to hold and as usual, I was left with some unsightly marks and the start of a couple of blisters after use but I believe this is mainly down to my usage of the grater, rather than the grater itself.
For such a cheap grater it does feel quite sturdy. I expected it to feel quite flimsy and break after a few goes but it has been going a while now and is showing no real sign of wear and tear yet which proves that this grater is good value for money.
It can take a bit of getting used to using this grater as it doesn't stand up itself whereas my previous one did but once you have mastered the technique, it is an easy grater to use.
Overall, there isn't really anything bad I can say about this grater. It isn't the highest quality grater around but then at 74p, what can you expect! For your money though you get a decent grater that is relatively easy to use, very cheap and lasts well. This product is exclusive to Tesco's as it is from the Tesco Value range and can be found down the kitchen ware aisle.
In summary, this is a decent grater and comes with a recommendation from me.
Summary: A decent grater from Tescos
