Tesco Value Slotted Spoon
Advantages: Works well
Disadvantages: Apperance a little dull
When we moved into our new house I decided to pick up a few things and as I do my main shop at Tesco that is where I went and came across a lot of basic kitchen items that were Tesco value range so decided to purchase them to give them a go. I was surprised at just how long some of the things have lasted this being one of them.
The spoon is made of plastic and is black in colour it has a long handle which is easy to grip and a good side so it can be held comfy in your hand. There is a small hole at the end of the handle so that it can be hung up when not in use and on the spoon there are 8 holes cut out so when you are serving food any liquid can be drained from it efficiently. It is very durable and although maybe not as strong as metal utensils this compared to any other plastic slotted spoon would hold up well it has had a lot of use and has held out well. For the small price of 36 pence at my local Tesco it has already paid for itself with the year of use it has had. As it is plastic it does not damage non stick pans like some of the metal spoons can scratch the surface easily.
I mainly use the spoon for serving up pasta or vegetables for my children and it can hold a fair amount at a time but you do need to be careful not to overload it so it can drain properly. As it is for use with hot food I was worried it may become misshaped or melt but actually it has held it shape fine and of course you cannot leave it anywhere too hot but for general use in cooking it works fine. The holes are big enough to let the water drain through but at the same time are not too big so that pieces of food fall through it of course you cannot use it for smaller things like rice but even peas can be drained on this spoon efficiently.
The spoon is very easy to clean I do not have a dishwasher so just wash it with the rest of my dishes and with a little fairy liquid and hot water it comes up as good as new again. There are no real downsides I suppose it is not very interesting or nice to look at but there is nothing to show how cheap it really is it fits in well with my other utensils and can be stored easily enough.
I would recommend this spoon it is cheap yet durable and although no good if a lot of food needs drained it is perfect for when I am making my children pasta and so it gets a lot of use in our house. It has lasted well and does the job it is intended for and for the small pence this product costs what more could you ask for?
