Advantages: makes skin glow, corrects sensitivity, erases fine lines
Disadvantages: can be heavy in hot weather, a lot to pay out at once
First off, let's address the cost of this amazing cream. A one ounce jar lasts at least six months if you use it properly, compared to a couple of months for most other moisturisers. So, while yes, you fork out a lot for the little jar, on a month by month basis it is not much more expensive than other premium moisturisers. Pricewise, it depends where you buy it. In most stores, you're looking at around £100 for a one ounce jar, but you can get good discounts online, and if you're in the US on holiday, you can buy it in any branch of Saks for about $110 - a lot cheaper! I bought this cream after I tried my mother's on a week long holiday. It is the only cream I have found to correct red sensitivity across my cheeks, and as a bonus, fine lines and wrinkes seemed to disappear by the end of the week. To get good absorption and avoid clogging up your skin it is really important to use the cream properly: take about half a pea's worth of cream on your fingertips and 'warm' up the product by rubbing your fingers together. You'll know when it is warmed when the cream starts to turn transluscent and more viscous in texture. Pat the cream onto your skin and massage it into your skin using upward strokes. If you use it properly, it shouldn't be too heavy on your skin. Creme de la Mer is best suited to drier, sensitive skins. If your skin is normal to oily, try the creme de la Mer lotion, which is lighter. I have never used a cream like it and I am an absolute convert for life!

- 17/07/04 I posted a previous review about this product. I guess everyone's skin is different, but I maintain that most people who love this cream probably never took great care of their skin in the first place; and now that they are older, they go for the industrial strength moisturizer. There is nothing special about this cream. Also, this is NOT Max Huber's formula. As I understand it, his formula died along with him. Estee Lauder bought the company and did myriad testing to try to re-create Max' original formula. Did they? Who knows? Since the recipe died along with Mr. Huber, who is going to question the Lauder empire? I do know I was absolutely NOT impressed at all with the cream. And I have tried EVERYTHING. |

- 06/06/04 OUCH! at the price, even though it lasts 6 months. I'd be too worried about forking that money over for it not to work! |

- 06/06/04 I'm afraid my mother-in-law would disagree with you! She bought some from the counter in Harvey Nics (where they told her she could have a complete refund if she wasn't satisfied with the product). She decided that she didn't like the cream so took it back....but they refused the refund!! She ended up directly contacting Creme de la Mer who gave her all of her money back. |
