Everybody, no matter how tall they are, needs a step ladder from time to time and therefore such products are essential in every household. We moved into our current house about 4 years ago and needed to do a lot of DIY. This meant that even though I am over 6ft I still needed that extra height occasionally when putting up shelves, putting up curtain rails, painting, hanging wall paper and so on...
When you are doing so much all over the house, a key feature of a step ladder is that they must be lightweight to make this as easy as possible. Luckily, this step ladder really is lightweight and moving it from place to place is a breeze and really takes no effort whatsoever. This is greatly aided by the fact that they fold up almost instantly - there is no fiddling around with clasps and leavers. Simply push it and it will compactly fold up for transport and storage.
The fact that it is lightweight means that the material used to make it is not as solid as you get on some products and it does feel a little cheap. However, this is no problem whatsoever. To make the step ladders feel of higher quality you must sacrifice the very usefulness of the step ladder, the portability. Also, as my step ladders and now covered in glue, paint, varnish and wood shavings, I feel a lot better doing this to products which I didn't buy because they look or feel nice but because they are practical.
The step ladder has three steps; any of these can be stood on without compromising balance. For extra stability of yourself when on the ladders. there is a rail reaching towards the top of the ladders which you can either lean against of hold onto to prevent slipping. This is very helpful when you are trying to reach something either very high or something just a little too far away. On many other step ladders you could risk falling in these situations, with this one you are perfectly secure!
The top level of the ladders is a larger platform than the others. although this can be used as a step, I usually use it as a table to hold all of my tools when I am working. This is ideal as it puts it a perfect hand height for me. It doesn't inconvenience me either as usually if I use the top step, I am too high and hit my head off of the ceiling anyway!
We moved in to our first home together back in 2010 and had to wait a little while before we could begin to decorate or undertake any DIY because of having new walls. This meant that we had time to decide on paint schemes, test colours, buy pictures and tools for our DIY. This obviously meant that we were nice and prepared when the time did come to start the decorating or the DIY but it has been a little bit more difficult pinning down a decent length of time to carry out the work.
We did not buy these ladders ourselves but received them as a gift from the in laws. My father-in-law felt that they would be useful for us, despite my husband being over 6 foot, and he was not wrong! We have used this step ladder on several occasions over the past few weeks. They have been useful when painting our living room, when putting up photographs and when wiping over the ceiling in my kitchen thanks to a cherry tomato explosion!
This stepladder is incredibly light weight at just 2.6kg and this makes it very easy for me to pack up and put away once we have finished using it. The height of this platform is 0.58m which adds a nice bit of height, particularly for my husband who is able to comfortably reach the ceiling when stood on the top of the three rungs. I can also reach the ceiling on this although it is not quite so easy for me but I do not have to stretch either.
As this ladder is so light I initially worried that it might not be able to withstand my weight but I then saw that it can hold up to 95kg so I have no worries there also my husband can use this too with no weight issues at all. I feel secure when standing on this as the three rungs do feel sturdy. I am happy enough to stand on the top rung which is larger than the other two and very sturdy. I do not feel like this stepladder is going to collapse and I have been standing on there touching up some edges at the top of my walls in the past few weeks with no problems at all.
This stepladder opens up easily and it takes just a few seconds to open this out fully and then I usually stand on the bottom step to test that it is open properly and that it is sturdy before I start to use it. Folding it back down is simple enough and takes just a few seconds as well. I can then tuck this away in to one of my hall cupboards and it takes up barely any space at all.
Obviously we did not pay for this so already it represents incredibly good value but when I look online I can see that this costs just under £20.00 from Tesco Direct. This price is absolutely fantastic for a stepladder that has been invaluable to use when decorating our home.
This ladder is lightweight, sturdy, easy to open and I feel confident on this even when standing on the top rung. We have used this on several occasions just recently alone and have been very pleased with this overall with nothing bad to say about this at all.
The Abru 3 Tread Stepladder has been a Godsend to me over the last six months or so - I purchased it when I moved home, then my Mum borrowed it when we redecorated her lounge and dining room and then my Dad borrowed it when we redecorated his new bungalow. So it's had lots of road testing in a short amount of time!

As we needed ladders quickly (we had only one week to refurb a house before moving in) we went to B&Q for everything. I must say, these ladders were a bargain, I was expecting to pay £30+ but they cost only £21, which I was really pleased about.
They're available in all B&Qs (not just B&Q Extra) and online with an additional delivery charge (but they did fit in my car, a 5 door Astra, so you should be OK to get them home with a bit of squeezing!)
**Looks & Specs**
The Abru stepladder is, as the name suggests, a 3 tread ladder, with the top bar comprising a support handle.
It is finished in a brushed steel, and looks very presentable, with rubber feet. The ladder is 0.58m in height when in use, and folds flat for storage (mine fits in the cloakroom cupboard no problems). Overall for the price it is a very smart looking and well proportioned ladder.
This is what I'd call an all rounder ladder - it won't reach your top windows obviously but for painting and decorating, getting something out of the loft, dusting high places, accessing otherwise hard to reach high places, gardening and so on, it's exactly what you need.
Over the months of continued use mine has become splashed with a rainbow of colours and a few scratches here and there from tools but it's still a very strong, sturdy and reliable ladder that I will be sure to use for years to come.
I highly recommend the Abru 3 Tread Stepladder. It's easy to find, very very reasonably priced and a very high quality item. It hasn't let me down and I'm sure you'll feel the same.
Five out of five - a must buy for DIY and home use.
There is always something you can't reach so it is always worth having a little pair of step ladders around. I am only 5'2" is the extra length is certainly appreciated. These ladders will not a good companion for all your needs, if you are decorating for example you may need a taller set of ladders with more rungs. I would probably say that these are perfect for helping you to reach down items you have stored away, dusting higher areas and putting up curtains.
==Price and availability==
The ladders cost £21.00 and are available from most DIY stores such as B&Q.
The ladder is lightweight and made from aluminium metal. When it is set up the ladder is 0.58m tall. It has three steps; these are all made so non-slip and are big enough for your feet to feel comfortable on. The incline in the steps is not too great, I hate really steep stairs as I do not feel very safe. These are at a gradual incline so I can comfortably stand one foot on one step and the other on the one below. The side of the ladder can be used as a rail to hold on to, as can the top part of the frame as it stands quite tall. The ladder is set on rubber feet to prevent it slipping. It is very sturdy and robust. The ladder collapses and opens with ease, making it really easy to store away as it does not take up too much room. To open the ladder, you need to pull out the steps from the back section until the top step clicks in place. The ladder is ready to climb and should not wobble as long as you position it on a flat floor.
The ladder is now splashed with paint and varnish so it has a very weathered look, but on the whole it is lasting well and I can see it lasting for quite a long time. All the hinges are well made and with a little bit of WD40 to keep the movement lubricated, it should last for a long time. I feel very safe using the ladder, I often use it on carpeted floors and spongy lino and it feels very supported and sturdy. I find the ladder nice and light to get out and store away; it is always there for when I need it. I mostly use the ladders for helping me reach the top of windows when I clean or for helping me dust in awkward places. A little set of step ladders is always really handy to have around.
I probably use the ladders a few times a month, inside the house and outside. I have lent them to neighbours too, so over time I think I have definitely got my monies worth! I can definitely recommend this ladder, it makes a big difference around the house.
Abru 3 Tread Domestic Step Ladder==
Moving in to my new house from a flat means a whole ton of different items are needed jut for day to day maintenance as well as those DIY jobs that we didn't have to do before. Getting a step ladder was another item which was on the top of our list even before we moved in and we were lucky enough to come across this Abru step ladder which was on a buy one get one for half price offer in our local trade centre. We were able to pick up the larger 5 step ladder along with this slightly smaller 3 step ladder and I must say how pleased I am we got both of them because we have used them at the same time almost every weekend since we moved in.
I think to buy this 3 step ladder separately you will be looking at paying around the £20 to £25 price region which when looking at other sorts of step ladders is not actually that expensive and in my opinion priced quite competitively.
I like the fact that the step ladder is lightweight and easy to move around the house both inside and out and I don't struggle with either the weight or indeed the height. The three steps give a good height advantage and is ideal for a ton of jobs around the home as well as in the garden. Once open the step ladder gives a height of 0.58 m and is a high enough height so that I don't feel too unsteady and I will often leave anything higher for himself to tackle with the larger Abru ladder we got at the same time.
This smaller 3 tread step ladder feels very sturdy considering how lightweight the product is and the top step which is the larger flatter square of aluminium on the ladder gives the right catchment in on the bars to ensure a tight fit and a secure opening of the step ladder.
I have found so far that the step ladder is easy to open and close and also to move around the home. I have used it outside and in and because of this I have had to give it a clean down and this too was pretty quick and easy to do with good results as well.
The price I paid was very good and I really cannot find fault with this mini style ladder. It is handy to have and ideal for so many jobs that we have needed to do so far in our new home. I can't find a single fault with this product and because of its robust make up I am sure that it will last a good many years to come. For these reasons I feel that a top score of 5 out of 5 stars and a exceptionally high rating is well deserved.
I do hope that this has been of some help/interest to you
Many thanks for taking the time to read.
Some months ago we were planning on doing a bit of decorating and DIY, we didn't have a ladder around the house so decided that before we started we really could do with one, we didn't want anything too expensive so had a look on the Tesco website hoping to use some of our vouchers. We came across the Abru 3 Tread Domestic Stepladder, it was ideal for what we wanted, it wasn't too big and bulky, it was light and was going to be suitable for carrying out DIY and decorating within out house.
The Abru Stepladder comes folded flat which is ideal for storing, we keep ours in the garage and when folded flat we can slide it into a small gap without it getting in the way. The ladder opens out to form an A shaped ladder with 2 rungs, above the two rungs is a platform for you to stand on with a large handle to hold onto, this actually forms part of the ladders frame but instead of stopping at the top of the ladder where the platform is it comes up one side of the platform and over to the other to form a large handle to hold onto whilst on the ladder.
The whole ladder is made from aluminium and has a shiny silver appearance, all four feet have black plastic covers on them which keeps the ladder stable and prevents it from slipping, where the rungs join the frame of the ladder there are also small plastic covers on the ends of the rungs which cover any sharp edges, again this is designed with safety in mind. AS I have mentioned the Abru Stepladder consists of 2 rungs and a larger square platform on top of the ladder, each of the rungs and the platform on top is made from the same aluminium but is textured, this is so that the areas where you stand are anti slip, this is very handy if you have been outside and then use the ladder and your shoes are a bit wet, the rougher textured rungs will help stop your feet from slipping on the metal, this does make the ladder rungs a little rough should you walk up it without anything on your feet but it does do a good job of preventing you from slipping.
When we purchased the ladder we didn't want anything too big and bulky or anything too heavy that was going to be difficult to move around, the Abru Stepladder measures 116cm (depth) 41cm (width) with a platform height of 0.58 Metres, this is from the bottom of the ladder to the top platform. Obviously the ladder isn't massive and not suitable for reaching extremely high objects, however for general domestic use within your house and for everyday DIY and decorating it is plenty high enough, my husband is over 6ft tall so generally doesn't have any problems reaching things when decorating and with the help of the step ladder he often only uses the first couple of steps, however I myself am not very tall at all but even I find I can easily reach what I need to within the house with the help of the ladder, it is just the right height for general domestic use.
The rungs are also of a decent size measuring 36cm (width) and approximately 14cm (depth) the space between each rung measure approximately 23cm, the rungs are slightly wider that what you would find on a larger ladder, however this is perfect for when using the ladder to decorate as it means you can comfortably stand on the rungs without them digging into your feet and without feeling like your feet are going to slip over the edge, the top platform is much wider and I find that you can easily stand on this with both feet without fear of them slipping over the edge.
When the Abru Ladder arrived I was pleased to discover that it was extremely light and weighs just 2.6kg (approximately) personally I like the fact that the ladder is so light as it means that it is easy for me to move around the house, whereas if the ladder had been large and heavy I would have to wait for my husband to move it every time I wanted to use it, but with its light and compact size I have no problems getting the ladder into the house and using it as and when I want.
As I have mentioned we bought our Abru 3 Tread Domestic Stepladder from Tesco, we purchased the ladder for around £20.00, the ladder is currently being sold on the Tesco website site for £19.77, this has some money off of it and should be sold at £21.97, personally I think this is an excellent price for this product, even when sold at full price I would say it is reasonably cheap. In my opinion the Abru Stepladder is definitely worth the money, despite it being light and compact it is also extremely strong and hard wearing, the ladder is very well made and can withstand being knocked around a bit as you carry out various work around your house, the ladder can take a maximum weight of 95kg's so for a light and compact ladder it is strong.
Overall I would definitely recommend the Abru 3 Tread Domestic Stepladder, it is reasonably cheap to buy and in my opinion worth the money. The ladder is strong, hardwearing and very well made. This is an ideal product to have around the house as it can be used for all domestic DIY and decorating projects, the ladder is only suitable for domestic use and this is clearly stated on the website. The ladder is compact so it will not take up too much room in your shed or garage and is extremely light to move around as and when you need to. The height of the ladder is perfect and just high enough to be able to comfortably carry out most tasks. The ladder is also very safe to use with a large handle to hold onto and the non slip rungs and platform, once in place the ladder is very sturdy with its non slip feet and does not wobble at all, you can use the ladder without having to worry about someone to hold it for you. Overall we have been extremely pleased with our Abru Stepladder and so far it has had a lot of use, I would certainly recommend this to anyone.
This light weight, easily storable step-ladder device is excellent for use around the house in domestic situations - such as changing a light bulb or reaching the loft ladder safely and securely. Its aluminium structure supports your weight excellently, though anyone over-weight may have difficulty, the ladder will not bend or flex during use. It is a silver colour and will fit perfectly under the stairs or hung up in the garage behind the lawn mower.
I purchased this model for £25 about 6-months ago and its strength and rigidity seems to be holding out well - despite it being used 30 or so times during that period. The aluminium is both strong and durable - it may get scratched from time to time but because of the colour this isn't noticeable and as the product is for functional use only this is an irrelevant point.
There are two thin climbing steps (about 200mm in diameter) leading to a fold down square step at the top, used to hold the thing together when in use. When standing on the top step (as you should), the weight from your person acts as a stabiliser, keeping the contraption together and you safe from falling!
I find the height of the ladder when standing on the top step is perfect for reaching the ceiling comfortably - so painting and decorating jobs are a wizz for this particular model. Saying this, I don't think this model is suitable for professionals as I feel over-use may have its damaging effects on the product.
The folding mechanism of the ladder is simple but effective. There is no danger of trapping fingers as the device is so light it will simply bounce open if closed too quickly - not gripping enough to injure. This does produce one problem with the product though, as the ladder has a tendency to open and shut, open and shut when not required. If you move it from one place to another without gripping it properly it will bounce open (potentially scratching near by furniture).
There is then no mechanism for keeping the ladder permanently shut, though there is for open.
Overall then I feel this little device is IDEAL for any house-hold in need of a small, fold-away, stick it under the stairs kind of step-ladder at a decent price! For those of you in a professional settings requiring such a thing, look else-where as this contraption won't last 2-years of hard graft.
Must start by congratulating Dooyoo, I suggested this product on Monday and it was uploaded today. We paid £21 for this basic three gtraed stepladder from B&Q, and it is ideal for basic household chores like changing a light bulb, decorating and doing the windows. It is silver in ciolour and made from aluminium which makes it nice and light weight and easy to move around the house so it is ideal for me.
Now this is a basic model so would not be suitable for someone who is in the trade and looking for something more robust and for every day use, this one is pitched at the occasional user so ideal for a household. I have used it both indoors and outside, outside I use it to do the downstairs windows and also to do some gardening when some of the small trees and bushes need pruning. Inside the house my other half has used it when decorating and I have used it to change a light bulb on those occasions when he is working away from home.
There are two actual steps and then a top platform which is the third step, it stands at 0.58m high and there is an aditional 0.5m of height with the hand rails and there is a tread on the steps and platform to prevent you slipping while on it and to give it some stability.
