I have never been good with heights, but I am not going to let a little thing like that put me off painting ceilings, hanging curtains or getting into my loft space.

I cannot remember how long ago I bought these ladders; it is defiantly longer than five/six years though. I therefore cannot remember how much I paid for them but looking on the Argos website now, they sell one similar to mine for £29.99. If I remember rightly the price wasn't that different back when I first bought mine.

I like these ladders as they form an A shape and are quite sturdy and feel very safe when you are climbing them. They stand just over a metre tall and this is high enough to wallpaper and paint ceilings. Although I would not recommend them for constant heavy duty use, for everyday tasks like changing light bulbs etc they are great. The steps are wide enough to stand on and feel safe about the width of metal underneath your feet. They are made of lightweight aluminium but they hold up to 95kg. When it is folded away it stands up and to open it you pull the legs apart, once you make sure that the top platform is properly down, you are ready to go. I have used these ladders on carpet and on laminate floor and due to the great D grip on each foot. I have never had the problem of slipping on tiled floors or laminate as these grips really do a wonderful job.

I can't say I have ever used the ladders without holding onto the handle at the top but the platform is wide enough to stand most comfortably on with no problems. It is also wide enough to fit a normal sized pot of paint and a roller tray which is very handy. Holding the paint pot while painting is not an option for me as I have to hold onto something, being able to rest them on the platform is a godsend. The ladders weigh roughly 3.6kg, mine weigh a little bit more as mine are covered in paint etc, which is good proof that they have been used happily (or it proves I am really bad at painting)! To fold away you simply lift the platform up and the legs go back together (I could have worded that better, sorry!) When folded it is quite neat and storage isn't a problem, I have them leaning in the corner of my kitchen and they do not get in the way really.
