Pricey, but all in all, a decent stepladder

Review of ZARGES 8 Rung Step Ladder

I have to start by saying I am not particularly comfortable using ladders, stepladders or similar items. I would not say that I am afraid of heights, I can happily stand on a high bridge or cliff top to enjoy a view, but I so not like being off the ground if there is any chance of my wobbling!
Therefore I tend to leave most domestic tasks requiring the use of a stepladder to my other half.

      **The Stepladder**

We have owned this Zarges stepladder for several years now. It was originally purchased when my partner ran his landscape gardening business, he was often called upon to do work that required a sturdy stepladder and this model was his choice. The Zarges range of stepladders on offer is huge, the company make them in sizes from 3 to 12 rung heights. My partner plumped for the 8 rung model as he felt it was the most versatile for his needs.

The ladder is constructed of silver coloured aluminium and has 8 rungs plus a fairly large, square platform at the top. The platform and the rungs are textured with a deep serrated effect for grip and stability. The step ladder is quite lightweight given it's size, and I can carry it from place to place, very easily. I haven't actually weighed it but I would estimate it at about 14lbs. The stepladder had a curved rail surrounding the platform which is comfortable to hold on to and does not get in the way of the job you are doing.

Height wise, this step ladder stands at approximately 1.65m which makes it perfect for most of our needs. We painted the exterior walls of our home last summer and I was able to reach right up to the fascia boarding with no effort when on this stepladder. Perhaps I should mention here that we live in a bungalow, this is not a house sized ladder!

The stepladder is very easy to open, simply pull to open and place in position. There are straps made of a stout webbing material joining the step part from the rear struts which need to be fully extended in order to prevent movement and to ensure the stepladder is fully open. The four feet have non slip rubber caps which again help with stability. The stepladder is very sturdy in use and I even though I am not the bravest of souls around ladders, I am quite happy when using this and feel reasonably secure on it.

Zarges products are stocked in various online retailers such as Amazon and toolbank.com at varying prices. I should point out that the stepladder carries the EN kite mark to show that it meets the UK safety standards.

      **My Thoughts and Conclusion**

Stepladders are hardly earth-shatteringly exciting objects, they are something that you rarely think about until you have a need for one!
Overall, we are very pleased with this stepladder, it has had a lot of use both indoors and outside over the years and is still in good condition, if a little paint splattered thanks to my shoddy painting skills!
It folds fairly flat and is easy to store in our garden shed, taking up very little space. As we do not have a fitted loft ladder installed, we also use this stepladder to access out loft space. I say 'we', but in reality, I've never been in the loft of our home as I don't think I'd like stepping from the loft down onto the ladder.....that's my excuse and I am sticking to it!

We originally bought this stepladder from a builders merchant locally. I must admit that the stepladder was quite expensive at around £120, but we felt it was much sturdier than cheaper models on offer. I consider it to have been money well spent.
It is true that you get what you pay for and this stepladder has proved itself to be of a good quality. The fact that it is sturdy and easy to set up also gives it the thumbs up from me.

I am awarding this Zarges 8 Rung Stepladder a 4* rating, only dropping a * for the high cost.

      Thank yo for reading.
