Advantages: Slick glossy lip gloss that has longenvity
Disadvantages: At £12 a tube are out of the budget for some people
The last time a passed through the international departure lounge in Heathrow, l happened to pick up a bargain pack of Lancôme Juicy Tubes.
Now this purchase was definitely a spur of the moment purchase – fueled on by alcohol l may add – ld just drank 3 pints of Stella and was feeling pretty merry! I had though heard many people extol the virtues of these products from work colleagues to fellow ciaoers/dooyooers (delete as appropriate!)
So what are Juicy Tubes? The product name would make you think of something rude and naughty but fear not these are innocent tubes of lip gloss. They are pocket sized, perfect for that wee hip pocket in your jeans! They can be bought at any cosmetics counter where Lancôme are sold. According to www.boots.com a single solitary Juicy Tube will set you back the princely sum of £12 STG. Now that makes me feel a lot better! Why – well my Stella induced purchase at the duty free in Heathrow for a set of 3 full sized Juicy Tubes, cost me £25. If l were to have purchased these on the high street separately l would have been stung £36 – yeah for me!! I got a bargain!! (Now l must admit that l also purchased a Mac Lip Glass gloss for £8 in Heathrow and after sloshing it over my lips in the loos l promptly lost it – so any savings l have made were flushed down the loo!)
The packaging aint wonderful if lm honest – it’s nothing spectacular to say the least. A simple soft see through plastic tube with a screw on lid. The applicator is in fact attached to the tube under the screw cape. It is slanted in a way your lippy might go after numerous applications. There is then a pin prick hole in the slanted applicator for the gloss to squirt through and attach itself to your lips. It’s a fine art in application, l have to say – you can squeeze your tube a tad too hard and end up with too much gloss on the slant than is required by your lips to give the glossy effect.
The gloss itself is great though – it gives off a high shine – and in my mind makes your mouth look sexy yet in an innocent way – does that make sense? The product is tacky and icky, for those with long hair after applying the gloss on a windy day you got to hold your hair back otherwise it ends up all stuck over your mouth! The taste and smell of the product though sets it apart from all other glosses l have used. Think of a nice lip balm, which smells lush and combine it with the high shine effect of a gloss – fantastic. I’m using a watermelon “flavoured” one at present and l adore it!
The colour is not as dark as that provided by for example that of the Mac Lip Glass – it seems to be clearer with a tint of colour. Simply giving your lips a natural sheen and shine.
The product comes in a variety of colours including:
Sorbet de cerise
Fraise
Raisin
Peche
Mange
Pamplemousse
Myrtille
Chilled
Sorbet de violet
Lychee
Cassis
Melon
Prune
Marshmallow
Ultra light kirshe
Hot Framboise
Petale
The names are obviously in French as Lancôme are a French company.
During an evening l would need to apply a few times – but really when using gloss lippy it really is an unavoidable exercise and l have found that when using other glosses the re-application is par for the course. In saying this should you over do the gloss squeezing you do find that slapping it on to your lips to get rid of the excess is not always wise – your glass/bottle or whatever you may drink from ends up coated and quite icky should you get your fingers caught!
Overall – apart from the sparten packaging l do like the overall effect, the transparency of the colour yet the high shine sheen off your lips in my mind is delectable. Once you learn the knack of squeezing the tube and getting the right amount of product for you. For more information about the product you can research online at www.lancome.co.uk
