Advantages: soft smooth skin, consistency of gel and well-designed packaging, overall results
Disadvantages: more expensive than some brands
With such a vast array of skincare products available in the shops today it?s difficult to know what we should be using to optimise the condition and appearance of our skin. Look in any Boots store and you?ll see rows of the many hundreds of different products from brands dedicated to creating the latest ?miracle in a bottle?, that will supposedly take years off you or cure that oily T-zone forever. Gels, creams, foams, lotions, milks, face washes, masks, toners, the choice is quite staggering and with new products appearing all the time it?s not surprising that some people feel overwhelmed by the choice. However it seems that the thought of a woman washing her face with a regular bar of soap, skipping the toning phase and skimping on moisturiser simply doesn?t bear thinking about anymore. It?s not surprising that companies are prepared to spend so much money on adverts to bewitch us into believing they have created some miraculous cure for our every beauty worry seeing as though the skin care industry alone is worth $24 billion.
Something I have contemplated for some time now is whether or not it really is worth paying more for so called ?premium? beauty brands after all; how much better can the products really be? However I won?t deny that I can be quite snobbish when it comes to buying cosmetics and beauty products and I always seem to find myself paying out for expensive brands. Adopting the attitude that the more expensive it is the better the product will be probably isn?t the right approach, it?s one that I find myself taking about 90% of the time. In fairness though my attitude isn?t completely unfounded as more often than not the saying ?you get what you pay for? really does seem to apply.
Before purchasing Lancôme?s LCM skin care box set I had never
used anything from Lancôme?s skin care range, my decision to purchase was therefore based on the performance of Lancôme make-up I had previously tried, the brand?s reputation and no doubt subconsciously the impact of their advertising. The box set I purchased contained a miniature Juicy Tube, 50ml of LCM Foaming Cleansing Gel and the product in question; 50 ml of LCM Beautifying Skin Conditioner.
*WHAT IS IT?*
Lancôme LCM Beautifying Skin Conditioner in ?Watery Fresh? (the lilac one) is a toner and moisturiser in one product designed for people with combination skin. It is a transparent, light gel that you smooth into your skin after washing; you don?t need any additional toner. The product also comes in versions designed for oily skin, dry skin and normal skin. There are three ingredients in this product which supposedly make it so special. Firstly pure extract of Centifolia rose petals which tighten pores and refine the skins texture, this is what gives the product its toning properties. Secondly it contains the elements zinc, magnesium and copper which are important for the metabolism of cells and to keep skin looking youthful. Lastly it contains vitamins E and B5 which moisturise, soften, smooth and protect the skin. Lancôme claim that they use all natural ingredients in this product, while they don?t use any preservatives for the rose petals I find it hard to believe that there?s a high percent of natural ingredients in this product especially not compared to products by Lush.
I love the packaging that this product comes in. It?s a transparent bottle which is always good in my opinion as you can see how much of the product you?ve got left. It?s also got a pump dispenser, at fir
st you have to be careful how you use this to avoid dispensing too much product from the container but you quickly get the idea of how far down you press the pump to get the right amount out and I?ve found that it?s very easy to control how much you want. The design on the bottle is simple but the overall appearance is sophisticated-looking. I think the product actually looks expensive from looking at the packaging which is always a good thing in my opinion. Overall I think the packaging is excellent and it is a highly effective design for this particular product.
*APPEARANC E AND SMELL*
The Beautifying Skin Conditioner is a transparent gel. It feels quite light and fresh on your fingers when you dispense it and also when you apply it to your face but it?s not at all greasy. The consistency of the product is perfect for applying to your face, it?s not too thick like a hair gel but it?s not runny or watery either and it smells nice too. The smell is quite subtle but it?s really gorgeous. I can?t really identify exactly what the product smells of it?s a sort of fruity smell with something herbal, quite hard to describe but it?s really nice. The smell seems to fade quite quickly when you apply it to your skin though. I haven?t used a gel moisturiser like this before but I have to say I really like the appearance of this product, somehow the transparent watery appearance makes me think that my skin is actually being hydrated with something that will do it good rather than being clogged up. This might just be me though, I don?t know if anyone else feels like this!
*EASE OF USE*
The product is incredibly easy to use. The dispensing pump doesn?t complicate matters at all, in fact makes it easier as it is very convenient to use. It also means you
don?t end up contaminating the rest of the product or spilling it everywhere or anything which I tend to manage with some packaging as I have a tendency to be slightly cack-handed at times! Once you?ve pumped a small amount onto your fingers you smooth it onto your face. Lancôme suggest you apply it is circular motions working from the middle of the face to the outside. To be honest most of the time I hardly have time to think what I?m actually doing so I just rub it in any old way, I very much doubt it makes that much difference. The consistency of the gel means it is absorbed quite quickly by the skin, this is quite important to me as when I?m in a hurry I can?t hang around for ages before applying make-up in the morning so I want something that?s easily absorbed. This gel glides on really smoothly and feels really fresh on my skin. It?s very simple to use and you don?t have to put much thought into applying it so even if I?m half asleep hopefully I?m still doing something good for my skin in the morning!
I?m really impressed with the results from using this product and overall I really like it. I?ve been using the Foaming Cleansing Gel as well so I don?t know if the product would work so well on its own but I have noticed a definite improvement in my skin. I started using the products together in June and found that within a couple of weeks my skin seemed to have settled down a bit and my T-Zone felt soft without any greasiness. My skin overall seemed very smooth and soft to touch, more so than it had been before and I genuinely feel the products must have played at least some part in refining the texture of my skin. After using the product I found I didn?t have greasy skin at all, it just felt and looked healthy. I personally really like using a gel because sometimes cr
eams can make my skin greasy and clog pores rather than moisturising my skin. With the Beautifying Skin Conditioner there is no greasiness at all, it is absorbed quickly and just leaves your skin feeling hydrated and fresh. The product doesn?t actually claim to improve the condition of you skin but I stuck to a regime of using it twice a day and within a couple of weeks I?m convinced that there was an improvement. The product doesn?t just make my skin look good though, it actually makes me feel good when I use it and if it can do that then I?m prepared to pay more for it.
*VALUE FOR MONEY*
In my box set I got 3 products for £19.50 but you can buy a 100ml bottle of LCM Beautifying Skin Conditioner on its own for £19 which is probably better value. It is definitely more expensive than a lot of brands but compared to its other premium rivals this Lancôme product is actually quite a good price. Sure, it does seem like a lot to pay but I feel like it?s actually doing some good on my skin and I really like using the product so I personally don?t mind paying for it. Also Lancôme often have bonuses on and in Boots you can sometimes collect extra Advantage card points when, for example, you buy 2 Lancôme skin care products so look out for offers. Also it may be possible to purchase the product slightly cheaper over the Internet from places such as eBay.
*WHERE TO BUY*
Lancôme can be bought from larger Boots stores, House of Fraser and other department stores, the products are fairly easy to track down. Of course if you don?t mind searching the Internet you can probably save yourself a bit of money by buying online.
In conclusion I would
definitely recommend this product, in fact both of the LCM products. The Beautifying Skin Conditioner is a pleasure to use and I feel it?s really improved my skin. Different products work for different people so it would probably be worth getting a sample before you buy this just to see how it reacts on your skin and so you can see for yourself whether it?s worth paying out for. The ladies on the Lancôme counters are always very helpful and will be able to help you identify which skin type you have. I can only be positive about this product because I like every aspect of it, I haven?t experienced any problems using it at all and I will definitely be buying it again but I?ll probably wait until there?s an offer on in Boots!
