The Price & Availability
I received this Paperchase Screen Starz Laptop Sleeve as a Christmas gift, therefore I am not sure how much it retails for. I checked online, and the laptop sleeve is not easily available from online stores. The Paperchase website no longer has it for sale; I am not sure as to whether it is because it is out of stock or whether it has been discontinued. 13 inch Paperchase laptop sleeves are usually priced between £15-20, therefore I believe the Paperchase Screen Starz Laptop Sleeve costs around that much.
*Designed for 13 inch Laptops/notebooks
*Zipped closing and opening
*Starz Cartoon Print
The Laptop Sleeve is 13 inches in size therefore is designed for 13 inch sized laptop/notebook. It has a zipped opening and closing design located on the top of the case. It has a pink coloured finish and a front cartoon image of animated character. The cartoon face has a one closed eye and one star shaped eye, as well as some light freckles on the cheeks. There are two red coloured hair bows in the cartoon character's hair, which illustrates it's a little girls face rather than a boys. There are three pictures of control knobs on the right hand side, making it appear as though the front of the laptop sleeve is a tv screen with the 'Starz' cartoon being displayed. It's all very girly, and therefore more likely to appeal to female customers than male. The design in my opinion is fun and funky and makes a nice change to the many boring printed designs used for laptop sleeves on the market.
The case is 13 inches in size and therefore fits my 13 inch laptop perfectly, it slides inside with ease and even has a little bit of room left over, which is great as my laptop would be too restricted when enclosed. The little bit of space allows enables me to take the laptop out easily, as have room to grip my fingers onto the laptop and slide it out.
The sleeve has a zipped opening and closing mechanism located at the top area, I find the zip itself to be made from good quality metal material and therefore is quite sturdy and durable. I am particularly pleased with the strong build of the zip as in the past I have experienced zips either snapping off or getting stuck while opening and closing, and thankfully I have not experienced any of these issues with this Paperchase Laptop Sleeve. I also prefer a zip mechanism than a Velcro opening and closing flap, with ultimately will lose its stickiness with time. All in all the opening and closing of the zip is very easy and doesn't require much effort to do.
The laptop sleeve is made from neoprene material which gives its elasticity and durability. The material is thick and has a reasonable amount of cushion providing a good safety barrier in case of knocks and bangs. The material makes the job of inserting the laptop into the laptop easier, as it literally just stretches to mould to the shape of the laptop. The material has a nice cushion feel and also allows for a nice comfortable grip be made while carrying it my hand. The pink neoprene material is easy to wipe clean if you spill drinks or liquid on it, however I found that it is prone to developing slight bruising marks. For example if you put this laptop sleeve inside another bag which has some hard objects, then I found that it leaves a light imprint outline on the material. It has also has a few pen marks which I cant seem to get rid of, but this is only a slight issue.
The laptop has sufficient room for a 13 inch laptop, but unfortunately there are isn't any other side compartments or pockets to hold accessories, which means I have to remember to pack the accessories and usb sticks and wires etc separately which is slightly annoying.
The laptop sleeve does provide a reasonable amount of protection for my laptop, as my laptop hasn't developed any scratches or marks since using this form of protection. I have used this laptop sleeve to hold my laptop many times while travelling, and is lightweight enough to enable carrying with ease. However although it is doing a decent job at the moment, I do worry that with time the laptop sleeve will start to wear and tear and as a result it will not protect my laptop in the long run. This is mainly due to the slight imprints left behind hard objects when pressed against the sleeve, and I imagine that this sort of force would eventually damage and rip the cushioned material.
Overall this is decent laptop sleeve that will provide reasonable protection for your laptop. However I am little let down by the material and cushion durability and therefore doubt it will last more than a year before developing wears and tears. As a result I would rate this laptop case a fair 3/5
Having treated myself to an expensive MacBook Pro earlier in the year, I was in need of a case or cover to protect it. I actually put off purchasing one for quite some time, having been uninspired by some of the more sensible, but pretty dull, products on the market.
I spotted this fun 13 inch 'screen starz' pink case whilst browsing Paperchase for something completely different and instantly knew that this was the cover for me and my Macbook! In a household dominated by boys, there is very little in the way of hot pink in evidence so I did like having this little burst of femininity on display. I also like the rather quirky slightly raised image on the front of the case. It features a squared off female face with a star for one eye and the other one winking, alongside three mock buttons. There is something about the image that makes me think of Japanese designs, for some reason, but I just like it as it is unusual, fun and eye-catching and would certainly stand out amongst other more conservative designs.
From a practical perspective, this case serves its basic purpose well. It features a zipped opening around the top of the case, which I prefer to press studs or velcro as it seems more robust and secure. The two zips both feature chunky plastic pulls and it opens and closes easily without catching. I also find the size to be perfect to accommodate my 13 inch MacBrook Pro - there is ample space to slot it in and remove easily without feeling as though it is going to slip and slide around once inside. The only slight drawback is that there is no interior or exterior flap, so there is nowhere to safely store a charger or any other accessories without the possibility that it could mark or damage the laptop in some way. My charger would certainly fit inside the stretchy neoprene case but I wouldn't personally store it inside due to concerns about scratching my lovely silver MacBook.
I do like the neoprene material that the sleeve is made out of as it is pretty resilient and protective. The only drawback to this kind of flexible covering is that it can mark or form little indents quite easily, if objects are pressed against it. Once dented, I have found it difficult to remove the marks, although they do gradually fade and become less obvious. I have also found the colour to be less forgiving of dirt and marks than I'd expected. For some reason, the slightest grubby mark seems to be easily spotted against the hot pink background. Some surface marks can be wiped or rubbed away easily, thanks to the neoprene material, but grease marks stain and I'm not confident about putting this case through a machine wash as I would be concerned about any damage to the design or the zip.
The sleeve is not actually quite as well padded as I'd originally anticipated. I was a little misled in store as the sleeve contained a sheet of foam inside, which made it feel thicker and more substantial than it actually is. I'm not convinced that the case would offer much in the way of protection if my beloved MacBook was dropped or something very heavy was dropped on the top of it, for instance! It does offer a little reassurance and basic protection from everyday bumps and mishaps, which is crucial in a household with three messy young children. My MacBook is kept at home and this case is ideal for protection in those circumstances. If I was regularly taking this out and about, I would probably chose a product that offers more protection with a sturdier covering and, perhaps, a strap as there is nothing to hold on to with this particular case so it is not particularly well suited for travel purposes.
This 'screen starz' case cost £15 from Paperchase (available instore and online) which I think is a reasonable price for an attractive and functional protective product for a laptop. It is not particularly thick or appropriate for travel but it does offer some protection against accidental damage within the home and certainly looks bright and cheerful.
