“ Brand: Swordfish / Type: Padded carry case / Suitable for: Netbooks sized 10 inches „
I bought a netbook just as they came out a couple of years ago to use for university work and as I wanted something to protect my new toy, I decided to buy a protective sleeve for it too. Out of all the ones in the shop, I opted for this one made by Swordfish.
The sleeve is made from a soft padded material that feels a bit like neoprene on the outside and like a fleece on the inside. It is 11 inches long and 8.5 inches wide and is designed to fit 10" netbooks in it. On end of the sleeve has a large fold over flap that velcros shut. Once this is open, it is easy to take out or put the netbook back in. The sleeve is quite lightweight and very flexible which I have found makes it easy to store when not being used.
I paid about £15 for this when I first bought it, which I thought was a good price to pay in comparison to others available. I have found that the sleeve is just the right size for my 10" Advent 4213 Netbook to be held safe and secure. When taking my laptop out and about, I always use this as I have found it will always keep my netbook protected. Being padded and very soft I have found that the sleeve can take quite a bit of shock and damage without the netbook being damaged at all. I have dropped it down the stairs once and the netbook was fine when I opened it.
I like the big velcro opening as when shut, it folds down about a third of the way down the sleeve which gives it a good strong and secure hold. I have never had a problem of this accidentally coming open during a journey. When your netbook is in the sleeve, there is a bit of room on top for me to put in things like memory sticks which is useful. There is not space however for chargers or USB mice etc though.
Being for 10" netbooks, the sleeve is small, which means there is no handle or shoulder strap for it, which is usually found on conventional laptop carry cases. I have not found this a problem as it is small enough to put in my backpack along with books and paper.
One feature I would of liked to see would be reinforced corners so that if it is dropped from a height, then the corners which would most likely sustain damage, would be even more protected. Apart from this, I really like this netbook sleeve and I don't plan on replacing it soon as it is still in excellent condition despite a lot of use.
As I have said previously, this sleeve will only fit 10" netbooks, so if yours is any bigger than this then this sleeve will be useless for you. This has to be one of the better netbook sleeves that I have seen as most others are made of much thinner materials that would provide little protection.
I bought this from Curry's when I bought my netbook and I am pretty sure that they still sell them. If they don't then I'm sure you could find them by a quick search online.
I am going to give this 5/5 as for the price and the great protection it has offered my netbook, it is well worth the money I paid and I would highly recommend it to anyone.
Thanks for reading.
