I bought the Targus netbook sleeve last year from Car Phone Warehouse. At the time it cost around ten pounds, I wouldn't normally pay this much for a sleeve (I could have got one for a few quid which I did for my own netbook) but my son wanted the free mouse that was offer with it.
The sleeve is made from Neoprene, is 31.1cm wide, 1.9 cm deep, is about 23cm high and is very light. It's capable of taking an 11.6" netbook and has a zip fastening rather than an 'envelope' fold like my cheap one. The sleeve is black and slightly padded with a stitched on coloured band around it and matching colour zip which is covered inside to protect the netbook from getting scratched by it. There are no exterior pockets or compartments. The whole thing looks stylish and well made.
Neoprene is like a spongy, rubbery, stretchy material. The 11" netbook fits well and securely in this bag it's even stretchy enough to hold the lead- bearing in mind the netbook lead is quite small. Nothing else would fit in there.
The sleeve protects the netbook from the usual hazards, dust, moisture, scratches but it's not padded enough to protect it from a high fall (I'm not going to test it for this review..) saying that my son has dropped it and the netbook never cracked or anything. As for moisture protection I would say that it does keep the netbook dry from condensation which is a problem in our house.
The sleeve is like new, there's no wear and the stitching and zip are still intact.
5 Stars from me.
The simple design of this Targus netbook skin caught my eye among the many choices available on Amazon. I needed something to protect my netbook while travelling; I nearly always fly with just hand luggage so I needed something slim that would not take up more space than necessary. It doesn't have a carrying handle; this is purely a protective sleeve.
This 11.6 inch zip fastening sleeve is just right for my 11 inch netbook: not so tight that it is awkward to remove the computer, nor so roomy that the computer moves around in it. I can also fit in the cable for my digital camera. There are no additional pockets or pouches but that suits me fine. If I need to, I can always slip in a few sheets of paper.
The skin is made from tough but lightweight Neoprene: it's double layered on both sides. This means that although there is a stripe detail stitched into one panel, the interior of the case is smooth.
I've owned this case for about two years now and it is in constant use. It looks as good now as the day it arrived. The stitching is strong and the tag to pull the zip is securely attached. The detail is excellent with a protective half centimetre of neat Neoprene shielding each side of the zip inside the case so it doesn't rub against the computer.
I paid approximately £10 for this item. Amazon doesn't currently offer this item but does sell the slightly smaller version which is identical in every respect but dimensions. A number of other e-tailers do sell it so it's worth shopping around. Mine is black with kingfisher blue trim; you can buy this with the trim in a small range of alternative colours.
I've been very happy with this purchase. It has met my expectations and looks set to be a faithful friend for some time to come. It'll probably outlive the netbook by a long stretch.
