Advantages: smart, easy to clean, unisex, lots of secure storage pockets
Disadvantages: says it is for up to 16" screen, but the rounded bag edges mean it is only for up to 15.4" screen.
So, while out shopping, we popped into best buy who were having a closing down sale, and I saw this bag for under £10. There were a few other different types of bag on the shelf for similar prices, but this one really grabbed my eye in smart black, with a hint of red accent with one red stripe on the front of the case and on a couple of the zips. It looked nice, but also, from experience, this type of case is reasonably tough in general everyday use, and was more than fit for the purpose of storing my new laptop in at home, and also transporting about when I take it out of the house.
The price of this bag on amazon is £34.99, and even at this price, I feel that this bag does warrant the price tag, so an extra big pat on the back to me for finding such a bargain being in the right place at the right time.
The bag is made from a nylon material outer, and is padded in the inside, so I am confident that my laptop is well protected inside. My laptop has a 15 inch screen. This bag is meant for laptops with a 15-16 inch screen. The laptop sits snugly in the middle compartment. It touches both sides, and there is about an inch spare. Because the bag is a bit rounded, I am not convinced a 16 inch screen would fit in quite that well, and on amazon it recommends a maximum size of 15.4 inches. Something to bear in mind.
The outside of the bag has a well attached plastic carry handle, and also 2 metal hoops to attach a carry strap. There was a strap inside the bag provided with the case. In haven't used this myself, but it looks quite comfortable. It is about 3cm wide, with a padded leather look section that can be moved to sit on your shoulder. I find it not too heavy or uncomfortable to just use the handle, but if I had lots of bags I would then use the strap.
The bag is divided into 3 sections. There is also a little pocket on the rear of the bag which fastens with velcro at the top. You would be able to put something in here securely as it would be between your body and the case, and would be easy to find. It could only be something paper thickness, but tickets or similar would fit here nicely.
Underneath the main compartment there is a section which is like a concertina file, with 2 sections. This would be good for putting important papers securely and allowing some sort of filing to try and keep them a bit seperate if you want to.
The main section for the laptop is well padded, with thick straps from the top and bottom to secure round your laptop to stop it moving round. There is then on the top side of that section another slot (pocket) for storing paper, a netted fabric pocket, and a pocket with a velcro fastening. When I was working I usually stored in this bit things like discs/CDs and some stationary like a biro, some post it notes, envelopes, paper to write on.
Both of these first 2 sections are zippered, and have a zip head both sides of the zip so it can be opened from left to right, or right to left.
The last remaining section is a smaller pocket on the front of the bag, which again is subdivided inside by a pouch and this has 3 different pockets on it for storing more small items. Here there is plenty of space for items like a calculator, pens, stamps, or more personal items would be fairly safe here, or as safe as any zipped bag you keep personal possessions in.
I have been fairly pleased with this laptop bag. The 2 plastic feet on the bottom mean I can stand it upright and store it without worrying about the bag scuffing. I left it on the settee, and the dog jumped up and sat on it, leaving mucky footprints. I found that with a damp cloth, all marks wiped off and you couldn't see them, and it was very easy to do.
There is plenty of useful storage which is more than adequate for my needs. It could be helpful to anyone to keep their laptop and paperwork organised until they need it. It looks really nice, is comfortable to use, and it is more than fit for the purpose it was designed for.
I highly recommend it.
Summary: Worth it even if I had payed full price for it.
