I bought this laptop skin about years ago now, shortly after I bought my laptop, so that I had some sort of protection for my laptop whilst I transported it around. I had initially looked for a carry case for it, but I soon realised whilst browsing in PC world that a skin was a far less bulky cover and most of the time I would place the laptop and cover inside a larger bag anyway.
The Targus laptop skin cost me around £15 at the time of my purchase, but it is now available on Amazon for just £3:99 (plus £3:72 delivery costs) which just goes to show how long ago it was when I purchased it.
The Targus laptop skin is basically a cover which offers protection from scrapes, scratches and everyday bumps and bashes. It will not offer protection if the laptop is dropped from a height, or smashed into vigorously.
The skin is made from a neoprene material which is a synthetic rubber which has a kind of soft, stretchy and spongey feel to it. Mine is mostly black in colour with an orange trim around the edge of it, and has a very sturdy zip which is used to seal the laptop inside the skin. My laptop is 13" and so this skin is especially designed for my size, but it was available in plenty of other sizes to accomodate most laptops and notebooks. The Targus logo is attached to the skin via a little tag, which looks quite trendy in my humble opinion. When I first bought the skin it was quite common, and fairly modern, although it has probably dated a little bit since then.
Having put my skin and laptop through 3 years of fairly heavy and constant use they have both come out the other end in pretty good condition. The Targus skin has done an excellent job of protecting the laptop from everyday accidental physical damage.
My laptop skin is showing a few signs of wear, as it has rubbed away a bit at one of the corners, and has a few scuffs on it, but this goes to show that it has done it's job well. It has taken the bashing that would have otherwise happened to my laptop, and it is a lot easier and cheaper to replace a laptop skin, than it is to replace a laptop and all of its contents.
Overall I have been happy with my purchase of the Targus laptop skin. It has protected my 13" Asus laptop really well over the last 3 years, and I suspect that if I had not made this purchase then my laptop would no longer be with me!
Thanks for reading.

I got a new laptop earlier this year and felt extremely protective over it as it cost me a small fortune! I needed something to protect it when travelling too and from work. I had a look in a few shops and Targus cases seemed to be the best value for money and I had read decent reviews on them in the past.
I paid £9.99 on ebay for a brand new case, it arrived quickly and I put it straight on my laptop. I have seen these for sale in shops for £15-20! So it is worth shopping around to find a decent price, online would be best.
It fits laptop perfectly, lovely and snug. It has protected it from those little scratches that you can get when the laptop is carried around unprotected! It also had stopped my laptop being damages when I dropped it out of my car one day! I am greatful I bought this as it could have cost me a lot to repair. Another good thing this case does is stop dust getting on the laptop! When I finish using my laptop I put this case on and then it's protected.
Although this may be expensive for what it is, I would say it is essential to have if you own a laptop! They could sVe you a fortune in repairs and will stop all silly scratches which can happen on a day to day basis. Recommended to all ages, worth having if you travel abroad etc. this gets 4 stars from me as the product is perfect, but the cost is a little too
High for what it actually is.
I treated myself to a beautiful, shiny new laptop at Christmas. Ten months later, it has only left the house once*, which sort of makes me wonder why I didn't just buy a desktop computer in the first place!
Well my reason for being so reluctant to take it out of the house is that it is a real thing of beauty. Shiny and immaculate..... and I want it to stay that way please!
I didn't think at the time to buy a case (partly because I had no money left after buying the laptop!) but I decided a couple of weeks ago that enough was enough. Let's buy a case and get this portable computer......well, out there!
I went on Amazon, as I tend to do as my first post of call whenever I need something, and I saw this 'laptop skin' for £9.00 reduced from £25. Perfect I thought. Click and pay.
As with all stuff from Amazon, it arrived quickly and safely and I have no complaints.
The skin itself is a kind of squishy squidgy foamy type material - very much like wetsuit material. It is soft and stretchy and actually very nice. There is a zip around to open and close and the inside is very soft and I do not have to worry about scratches.
The only problem I have with this laptop skin (and I should point out that this is not a design fault at all - it is something I did not consider at all when selecting the item) is that there is nowhere to store the charger lead. There are no pockets or compartments for this and so the only solution you have is to carry the lead separately (and in my case risk losing it) or put it in the skin with the laptop which will ruin the snug shape of the case and potentially scuff your laptop up.
So although this is not the right product for me personally, and I am now on the hunt for an alternative, I am still giving this 5 as there is nothing wrong with the product itself and at £9 at the moment it is a bargain!
* due to lack of laptop case, laptop's first day out involved being wrapped in a pillowcase.....
When looking for a suitable cover which could protect a small netbook, we came across several laptop skins that we liked the look of, in the end we narrowed it down to a Targus Skin Laptop Case which has turned out to be a really good buy.
The materials used for the product have proven to be very good indeed and we have found that the Targus Laptop Skin was a great little item that does just what we want it to. Having made a product suggestion for the exact item we have which is the same skin shown here, but in a different colour, Dooyoo have directed me towards writing about it here.
Our Targus Laptop Skin is made from a deep black neoprene fabric, but where the skin shown here has an orange trim, ours is a lovely shade of vivid turquoise. When I say vivid, I mean vivid. At the time of buying the product it also came in a red and black option and a plain black option. Of the 3 colourways we thought the turquoise and black was the most attractive.
We purchased our Targus Laptop Skin from PC World and as I recall it cost £9.99. The pic shown here has a slightly higher price but we have also seen these cases priced even higher at up to £14.99. So at £9.99 our Targus Laptop Skin was a bit of a bargain.
The design of the product is great, its very simple yet very effective. What we liked about the idea of having a laptop skin was the fact that it can be used either at home or when out and about. We have found that at home its so easy to slip the netbook into the Targus Laptop Skin and zip it up. Then it can be put away or left safely on a stable surface, ready for its next use.
When away from the home the Targus Laptop Skin is just as useful, as we can slip it inside a more traditional laptop carry case, which can then hold the netbook inside the skin and also the cables and charger. By safely putting the netbook into the skin before putting it into the carry case, it means that its kept nice and snug and won't be knocked about. This is something we find very helpful and would recommend you think about doing.
With the Targus Laptop Skin being made of neoprene its really easy to clean and take care of. The zip that has been used for the skin works very well. We have had no problem opening or closing the skin with the zip. The zip never jams or pulls and has always glided effortlessly shut when needed. The handy tag on the end of the zip gives you something to grip onto when operating it and this does contribute towards ease of use.
Our Targus Laptop Skin has a turquoise trim across the mid section of the skin and the material of the zip surround is the same colour. The rest of the skin except the tag which is sewn on to one end, is in a touchy feely black neoprene. One thing that does need a mention is the fact that we had to buy a slightly larger Targus Laptop Skin than the netbook. Although it did fit into a smaller size, just! We felt it was better to go for the larger size as there was less chance of the zip catching or being put under too much strain as the fit was rather snug.
To sum up the argus Laptop Skin I feel its a good little product that does what we need it to. It was a fair price to buy and works very well. Its simple yet modern to look at and offers plenty of protection from knocks and bumps as the neoprene fabric has a light spongey texture to it
We have been very happy with the Targus Laptop Skin and because of that the product gets a full 5 star rating.
I bought this when I originally got my Macbook Pro (13 inch) as I wanted something just like it. It's actually a skin, not a case, meaning it packages the laptop tightly and secures it safely, being quite compact at the same time rather than a large bag to carry around. I liked the idea of this skin as you can stick it in your ordinary bag and you can't tell there's a laptop in there from the outside.
I bought mine from John Lewis for about £15, but you can buy it now on Amazon.co.uk for £11.99. It's not cheap at all for what it is, but it certainly is what I wanted. The one I have has a black and orange colour scheme. There is an orange outline all round the edge and one side also has an orange stripe across it. The black material is made of neoprene, which is a synthetic rubber. To you and I, this feels like a tough sort of foam or polyester, and it's basically that - it can stretch quite a bit too.
The Targus logo is stitched onto a tag that hangs off one side, but it's not overly large. The zip is quite large and of great quality. It's black and made of rubber, with the orange Targus logo on it. The great thing about this case is that the zip has an inner lining within the case to protect your laptop inside. This means the plastic bits of the zip are kept well away from your laptop and even the handle of the zip won't be in touch with your laptop due to the soft rims that protrude underneath. This gives ultimate protection to your laptop against scratches.
It's ideal for the Macbook pro 13 inch as it can scratch quite easily and this helps to prevent that. However, it will fit perfectly to any 13 inch laptop. I wouldn't try to put an even smaller one in here as it will just move around and it won't work. The zip works really well and opens and closes smoothly - I've had no problems with it, after a whole year of use. The case is still in mint condition in fact! The inside is very soft too, made of the same material and there are purely smooth surfaces inside to prevent any damage. This case will protect against scratches and bumps.
I love this skin due to the fact it's very compact and protects the laptop well, and that it can be fitted into any other bag. It's certainly worth thinking about if you have a laptop - if not, there are a range of other sizes and colours and even skins on the Targus website at: http://www.targus.com/uk/. This skin certainly looks the case - it's very simple but also modern and eye-catching at the same time. Luckily it's not eye-catching when it's tucked away inside your bag so no one will know your laptop is in there for sure when you're out and about! I'd really recommend one of these, despite the slight premium price.
Thanks for reading!
With the rise of people buying ultra-portable and ever more expensive laptops, there are a lot more products on the market to enable people to protect their pride and joy from scratches and other accidental damage.
Targus laptop skins come in a range of sizes from netbook size up to the huge widescreen entertainment laptop size. Just check your screen size and choose appropriately.
They are basically a zippable neoprene case for your laptop. Its not substitute for a proper bag as there is no room to fit anything else in e.g. power supply though you could of course sneak in a few sheets of paper or a slim book. One think to note when picking out the size is to check your laptop dimensions as well as screen size. My laptop is a little too long in one direction but fits the correct screen size as the case is a partly stretchable.
The skin will provide practically no protection if your laptop is dropped or there is any other major accident, what its for and what its good at it is to prevent scratches from objects such as keys in your bag. It also provides a small measure of protection against accidental water spillage.
