Toshiba Satellite L40-14Y ... Toshiba L40 seems to come in a variety of different models, each with different specs within the same outer casing. I have what seems to be the lowest end model, which on paper is just about good enough to run Windows Vista. The build quality of this laptop is reasonably good, with no bit s falling off and it all appearing to be in one (relatively) solid piece. Having a 15.4 inch widescreen display, which is common in laptops nowadays, means that this is by no means a portable machine, although Toshiba appear to have tried to reduce the size with no overly large border around the display which would add unnecessary bulk. Toshiba Satellite Pro L40-12S ... is the laptop I am typing from now, and for me it has outshone my expectations of it by some way. I bought this laptop a bit over a year ago and I think it was very cheap, about £350. For this price I was not expecting much in the way of performance or longevity however this laptop has defied the principle of more money, more ram means better. It does not have the best of specs, however it handles most applications perfectly fine. The only thing that it has a problem with The Sims, however this seems to be more of a general compatibility issue with windows vista. Samsung Q30 Silver 1100 ... but the size makes the keyboard functional - I find much smaller harder to touch type on. The dimensions are a pretty neat 28.8 cm x 19.6 cm x 2.4 cm. The Q30 runs on Windows XP Professional which was preinstalled. It isn t the fastest machine to use however, especially by today s standard of super fast machines. It has a paltry 512 MB of RAM and runs on an Intel Pentium M Processor 1.10 Ghz. The hard drive is 40 GB and there are two USB slots. All this seems pretty appalling today when you can pick up small netbooks that run on Linux for under £150 in Tesco with a similar spec, but none of these netbooks are anything like as sleek as the Q30 and lack some of t...
