Advantages: Cheap and smooth running

Disadvantages: Can only utilise 3GB of ram

Ok I bought this laptop 3 months ago from Currys. I have only had one problem after a month or so the battery stopped charging. I sent it off to the Tech Guys who support the warranty and 14 working days (~3 weeks) later it was returned. A long time to be without a laptop for what was quite a simple fault - motherboard connection to power supply was replaced. Anyhow the laptop has now been returned and now works fine I am pleased to report.

The positive points for the laptop are down to great value for money with a lot of cool features like the built in webcam. It runs at a decent speed but considering the 4GB of ram I was expecting Usain Bolt.

The negative points are:

Not a fan of the numberpad as it makes the keyboard a bit cramped, may come in useful at some point tho.

Because of the slim depth to the keyboard, as a result of the 16:9 widescreen display, the laptop is a bit awkwardly balanced (for lap use - fine on a table).

No bluetooth, despite there being a bluetooth button on the keyboard.

Due to the laptop being loaded with windows vista 32bit (and not 64bit) the laptop can only utilise 3 out of the 4GB of RAM installed. Slow for running Adobe CS4 and Windows Aero theme.

The graphics card is not dedicated and hence takes a chunk of performance from the ram installed.

All of this leads to a disappointing Windows User Experience rating of 3.7

I would say it's worth a punt for the price but consider spending a couple of hundred more for something more special...

Summary: Fine for day to day tasks but not as powerful as expected.

If you check out one of the upgrade options with Windows Vista, aslong as its Home Premium or above you can usually upgrade it to a higher version internally using a shortcut on the start menu. I know this allows you to go from Home to Business to Ultimate. I am not sure baout 32bit to 64, and obviously there shouldn;t bee tooo much cost for 64bit in an upgrade. It might be worth checking out.

Also I agree it can;lt use the full 4GB however it can use somethign like 3.75GB, so make sure your shared memory setting in the bios is set to use the msot amount of your RAM as possible for graphics. I.e. if your bios can be set to use 256 of your RAM for Graphics shared memory, the PC will dedicate this memory to graphics and thus tell windows you only have 3.75GB
which you will be able to use most of if not all.
(Hyper-Memory is when Windows does the sharing of your grpahics, i.e. you say base need is 64, and then windows bungs the extra accross as and when you need it, rather than reserves it, which the bios does)

There are also patches online avialable to extend the addres table for Vista 32 bit to allow you to make the most of the extra bit of unused RAM< although they aren't really worth it as they use enough resources themselves
