My last laptop was a Toshiba and when that one died I went looking for another Toshiba but they were all out of my price range. I work from home and run my own business so needed a laptop that would be suitable for my business and portable with a decent battery life. The Acer Aspire ticked all the boxes.
The set up is easy, it needed to be plugged into the mains to set itself up but beyond that there was very little for me to do. It has a lot of trial software and other items of software that were of no use to me but these were easy to delete.
It comes with Windows 7 and I'll be honest, since Windows 7 was relatively new when I bought the laptop I was wary but I can honestly say I've had no problems with it and I do find it a lot more user friendly then XP, I never used Vista and so can't make the comparison there.
The computer comes with a built-in crystal eye webcam which works well, I do have trouble using it for video calls with Skype as the sound quality deteriorates although this may be the speed of my internet rather then the laptop? It weighs just under 1.5kg and the battery life claims to be 6 hours although I have managed to get 6.5hours out of it when it was new and so the computer is easily portable.
One problem I have found with other netbooks is that the sound doesn't get very loud which was a concern when buying this since I need the sound to reach at least a decent volume, however I have to say that this laptop exceeded my expectations in that area and very rarely have I ever had to use the volume at maximum, more often then not I find myself having to turn it down!
As for negative aspects.. this is not suitable for serious gamers as the graphics wouldn't support this, the shiny back and screen can also attract dust although this is easy to clean. Also, since it's a netbook it doesn't have an inbuilt CD drive although I have got around this problem by using an external one with no problems.
All in all a good laptop for anyone on a budget so long as you don't intend to use it for gaming.
