Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Poor battery, expensive to replace
As you will see from my previous reviews, you will know that i have the Dell Inspiron 640 laptop (this replaced the Acer that i am about to review).
Well to be honest i dont have many good things to say about the laptop in general. Firstly i will give you all the technical information then i will give you my personal experiences with the laptop.
The laptop is a light and easy to carry piece of equipment and has all the essentials that are needed. It has a 15.4 " screen (which i think is a perfect size for just general leisure use). It has a 60GB hard drive, which once you have your photos/files etc loaded really is not that much. I found my laptop slowed down very quickly with what i considered not alot of files on the drive. In the end i had to buy an external harddrive as this was such a problem for me.
The laptop also has internal wireless, meaning you dont have to have one of the cards (which i always found very annoying!) and also has the facilities to watch DVDs and burn music through the harddrive.
When i bought this laptop i paid about £650 for it - although i am aware prices can vary quite a lot. I wanted a cheap laptop, which is what i got.
In my experience this laptop was not a good buy. The laptop was fine for about 6 months, but then it began to struggle with laoding pages, surfing the internet became slow and you could hear the fan working overtime (it sounded like something about to take off!). After about a year the battery began to deteriorate, i looked at buying a new one but was told by most computer companies that parts were hard to come buy and not worth the price. Although the battery life was never great (about 3 hours), i can no longer turn the laptop on without having it plugged into the mains.
You can hear the whirring noise coming from the battery area - which is very loud and very off putting when trying to do work.
All in all i really wouldnt recommend this laptop. Although it was cheap, the memory is quite poor and an external harddrive is needed, the battery life is poor and should anything go wrong with it parts are expensive and difficult to come across.
Summary: Not a good buy!
