ACER aspire laptop - Introduction

The acer aspire series 5050 laptops are budget laptops packed full of features and running microsoft vista operating system.
Being basic entry level products they will not offer the fastest processors or the biggest displays and may not be the lightest
of laptops but they will offer plenty of features and specifications to future proof the product and deliver excellent performance
at an affordable price.I will list the specifications of this model of laptop and then list the benefits of these of these specs
based on my personal experience of usingf this product and give a mark out of ten for each section to help you form an overall
opinion of the product.

Features

display- while not the biggest of displays the image is crisp and clear and is big enough to have several windows open at the same time
it does take a while to get used to the widescreen format especially when playing games but this soon fades with use.the brighness
size can be adjusted to user preferences and the display is of a high quality for a budget laptop

Processor- Once again an impressive processor for a budget laptop that will easily handle modern softwareand the memory and processor
windows vista operating system,it will easily run most software and virtually all the latest games but maybe lacks the speed you
would get with a dual core variant

Graphics- again a decent steady graphics set-up that will easily handle all but the most graphic intensive software.ati are known for delivering
reliable hardware that performs well and is great at saving battery power.this is a excellent card for a budget laptop.

Hard drive- This model comes with a 80 gb drive that is a good size to help store all your digital data and is well suited for helping to save
power it is also surprisingly quiet for a budget model variant.With the popularity of External usb models upograding is now very simple
should you run out of storage space

Optical drive- This model has a combo drive that will allow the use od both standard dvd's and dual layered dvd's which is great for future
proofing and wth support for cd-rw and dvd-rw,the drive is smooth and quiet in operation

Memory- 1ghz this size of memory is what i would usually recommend with the memory intensive windows vista operating system and there is the option
of upgrading to 4ghz which is great if needed for future use.Once again the emory allows smooth operation of the software and will allow
for great performance whatever you wish to do.

WLAN- The laptop comes with a built in wi-fi adapter which is an essential piece of kit in the wireless world and will give you true mobility both
at home and on the move.It is very easy to set up and i had no problems in connecting to several different types of connections.you also have
a hotkey on the front of the laptop that allows you to easily turn off the adapter to save power when not in use

5 in 1 card reader- This is more commonly becoming a standard feature on most computers and laptops and will allow the transfer of digital data to
and from any digital product that utilises digital media.Again this is all set up and is very easy to use with all media
automatically detected when inserted.

Power- This is probably the biggest let down of this laptop with battery power not lasting that long when you have all the features turned on.I was
getting on average 1.5 hours of use from the battery.There are some useful power saving features bt i feel they could have offered a more
powerful battery pack.

Operating system-This model comes with windows vista home premium version,this is both easy to use and very stable and ties in well with the features
that this product offers.(i will not go into to much detail about the o/s as this would be a seperate review)

Weight- not the lightest of laptops but acceptable for the price,the outer casing is well designed and the product feels well made and of a higher
quality than the price tag would have you believe.

SUMMARY
A feature packed great performing laptop for the price,there have been corners cut to deliver this budget product but if you can accept a product that
is a reliable performer then this is the product.Beware this is not a high end performer and is best suited for someone who wants good performance
for the smallest price tag.
