Advantages: Great little laptop
Disadvantages: None
Acer 5315 Laptop.
------------------------------------------------- ----------------
[The Laptop.]
The 5315 comes boxed with all standard laptop accesories. It comes complete with a battery, power cables, instruction manuals.
As with all Acers, it does not come with a recovery CD. There is a seperate partition on the hard drive with the windows recovery files on. (Don't worry if you have no idea what a partition is, Acer very kindly talks you through how to create your own recovery CD's in a simple way on turning on the laptop for the first time)
The laptop is grey, off white color on the inside. The touch pad is also the same colour as the keys. The laptop is black on the outside with a small white acer logo in the middle.
[Specifications.]
The retail 5315 comes with a;
- 80GB hard drive which is pleanty big enough for storing most documents, music, programs etc.
- 1GB RAM which is fine for Windows XP, however if you are wanting to use Windows Vista, or just some large programs in general, I strongly suggest upgrading this RAM to 2GB. An extra RAM stick can be purchased for about £5-10 if you shop around a bit (ebay!) and can be fitted very easily.
- 15.4" Crystal bright screen, which is perfect for general laptop use.
- 256MB Graphics which again, is perfect for general use. Some of the older games, watching videos etc.
- Wireless connectivity which allows you to connect to the internet without the use of any wires.
[My Opinion.]
I used this laptop for many months prior to upgrading to my newer one and I still kept this as I cannot bare to get rid of it. It is a great little laptop, pleanty enough for the average user i.e, word processing, internet browsing, light gaming, movies and all types of multimedia.
The battery lasts for about an hour and a half on a high perfomance plan, so it wouldn't be a good pick if you will need to be mobile with it alot.
It is a great size, very easy to carry around, quite light. It looks very clean and minimal both on the inside and outside too.
The laptop is very quiet when in use, you can barely hear it and it stays very cool, even when used for many hours.
[In conclusion.]
I love it. The only down point in my opinion is the lack of bluetooth, but this can be added extremely cheaply with a little dongle anyway!
I would recommend upgrading the ram to 2GB ASAP although with or without the extra ram this laptop will not fail you for most everyday tasks. It can be picked up quite cheaply now which makes it perfect for anyone on a budget, or someone looking for just a standard laptop for everyday normal tasks.
Summary: Perfect little standard laptop for anyone on a budget or anyone who doesn't need all the top specs.
