Advantages: neat, easy to use, good price
Disadvantages: slow, short battery life and very heavy
I had been looking for a pc upgrade or laptop for a quite a while when I first saw this laptop on Ideal World one night. I watched for a bit as it seemed a reasonable price at around £300 and thought that it was a nice little laptop. Then when I saw it on Very the next day I tried using a moneyoff voucher they had sent me and managed to get it for about £230. I also got a buy now pay later deal for the following year so I decided to take the plunge.
I brought this laptop instead of updating our home pc and also thought a laptop was a better idea as it would be more portable. This of course was just before the small netbooks all came out, otherwise I would much have preferred one of them.
The laptop is a very reasonable price for a basic home computer that gets the job done. It doesn't really have many of those features that you don't really need, which for me was a very good thing, as I just wanted something to surf the web and for basic paperwork. This laptop does do this but my main complaint is that it sooo slow! Starting it up takes an age and the internet use can be very slow at times, but is never what I would call fast. The keyboard is quite nice and makes typing simple and easy and it does pick up a wireless router reception very well, throughout the house and our garden.
I am a bit gutted as I would have liked a netbook because this is quite big and a bit heavy if you were to travel with it. When I have been on holiday I have never taken because I can't spare the luggage weight for it, so that sort of defeated some of the points of buying it in the first place.
The sound on this product is very good and I use it for music and videos all the time. The dvd player is also a very good quality and I often watch films on whilst in bed. The screen is a perfect size for watching dvds, videos and TV. This would be a great idea for a teenager's room as they could use it for dvds, music and web browsing.
Whist I realise that you can pay a lot more for laptops and I got this one at a very good price I just can't get over how slow it sometimes be. It's not always slow but starting it up and shutting it down seem to take a lot longer than our home pc, so don't bother if you want something very quick.
This is ideal as a starte laptop for someone who perhaps just uses it for internet browsing and bits here and there like me when I first brought it.
The other thing that I found very annoying with this laptop is that the battery life is very short. I am lucky if I get 2 hours out of a fully charged battery. I don't know what other laptops are like but for me this is pointless. I usually get around an hour on full brightness, which I find most comfortable for my eyes, and for me this just isn't enough.
Overall I would say that for price it is a fair product, but not spectacular, the best part is probably the price. I awarded it 3 out of 5 stars because apart from the speed and the weight/size I was happy with it and it gets the job done.
Summary: Great if you only want a basic, cheap laptop.
