Acer Aspire 5332-312G32Mn
Advantages: Easy to use, Dazzling widescreen display, Fast performance, Compact. Good for business and work also
Disadvantages: Tends to struggle with performance heavy applications sometimes.
I have had a love for computers and laptops for most of my life; i've seen my fair share of them, but over time they have shown signs of general wear and tear. My newest addition is the Acer Aspire 5332, after my previous laptop was overheating far too many times. I received this laptop a year ago, and it hasn't let me down many times at all.
Upon unboxing it, I was shocked by the wide-screen aspect of it. Never having used a wide-screen monitor before, I was sceptical of how the display would turn out. And it looks fantastic, everything fits onto the resolution neatly and giving you plenty of space to work, play and create in stunning HD.
The laptop itself is very compact and easy to carry around. The keyboard isn't too small or too big, and the touch screen is easy to adapt to. There are two USB ports, and the power port is placed on the left side of the laptop. The battery life can go for about an hour or two on Balanced/High Performance, but you're going to have to switch to the Power Saver option to keep it running for longer. The cooling fans seem to work well enough - although I must admit I have come across a few overheating incidents when playing games on the system. The speakers are adequate, but not nearly as loud as I expected. Headphones are needed to appreciate the sound fully.
The laptop comes with Windows 7 Home Premium. A huge step up from Windows Vista, the operating system takes the best bits of it's predecessors and builds upon it and adds some great new elements. The performance is quite fast, and runs most applications smoothly and efficiently. It is definitely the fastest laptop/notebook I have had. However, the laptop is not designed for tons of PC games and performance heavy applications. It can deal with a few, say Photoshop, Sony Vegas, and the odd game or two, but clogging the system with programs can draw it back a bit. There is a lot of space for your pictures, videos and documents in the hard-drive, and although I don't store many, I know this will be useful for some people.
The Acer support is very helpful for beginners, but could get annoying for some experienced with computers and protecting them. It does provide a free antivirus trial and urges you to back up your data, both of which are vital if you want to make sure nothing goes wrong.
Overall, the laptop is definitely suited to the casual audience. It can and will do what you want it to do, and it will do it well unless you overload it. Well worth the money, perfect for me.
Summary: One of the best casual notebooks around.
