i bought this laptop due to the impressive spec it had on offer for the money, however dont be fooled. despite the good spec the laptop just simply cant cope with it. it often over heats and can only be used on a desk or performance falls significantly. the HD screen is however a good point as the picture quality it offers is impressive. although without a blur ray drive it is not put to full use. the additional number pad on the side of the laptop is useful. the speakers blow very easily and give a crackling sound. the dvdr drive doesnt always read the disks when inserted although whether that is simply fault on my model remains to be seen. there is a large number of USB slots along with a memory card reader which is helpful. however all of the plus points are overshadowed by the laptops constant overheating as it struggles to cope with its ambitious spec.
I purchased this laptop not too long ago from a computer store for starting university as it seemed to be a cheaper but good value for money laptop. I must say that having had it now for around 4 or 5 months, it has began to slow down considerably and is now giving me quite a few problems which I will explain shortly.
Initially it ran well, as most brand new laptops or pcs do, fast startup, reliable and not many problems. However after installing my programs I use for my work, the odd game and an antivirus along with my music, it's under quite a lot of strain it seems, with long start ups, often after starting from sleep mode the keyboard and touch pad is non responsive and the internet browser and machine will sometimes just freeze.
Now maybe I have been a little unfortunate, as I realise that Acer is a good make and luckily I do have insurance on it, which I will soon take for them to have a look, but I am a little disappointed because it seemed such a good all round laptop to have. I got mine for £379 in a computer store and for the good specs, didn't think it was very expensive for what it has to offer. For those like me who bought it before windows 7 arrived I did get a free upgrade which I shall install soon and maybe that will fix some of the problems I am encountering.
Another issue I have is the fact that the HDD light is constantly on being accessed. Also physical memory ie RAM is always around 40% in use. Again maybe it's me being unfortunate or an issue with vista.
On the good side, it has not as of yet broken completely. Battery life is around 2 hrs and the screen display is fab. It is a good all round laptop but I feel as though I have perhaps been a little unfortunate with the issues mine has caused.
